The 10 Most Underrated Shooter Maps Ever Made
You don’t have to look too far online to find a subjective list of the best shooter maps ever made. Because regurgitating another one of those lists would be too easy, and apparently I love making life difficult, I’ve gone the other way. What follows is a breakdown of my pick of the 10 most underrated shooter maps of all time. To further complicate (or, perhaps, refine) the selection process, I’ve enforced a rule of only one game per series which, believe you me, makes things a whole lot trickier.
In no particular order, here we go!
Look online and you’ll find a lot of hate for Outskirts which – coupled with the reality that Treyarch had the unenviable task of following up on the mega-success of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare – makes for the perfect first entry in this list. The more popular maps in World at War had a greater emphasis on close-quarters combat and tight corners. Outskirts, on the other hand, bucked the trend, with long lines of sight and plenty of open space between ruined houses, which made it a sniper’s delight. It also forced run-and-gun SMG players (like me) to shift to longer-range firearms, or trick opponents into intense corner battles. Also, it had tanks.

Carrie Fisher Had a Small Role in Dishonored
Carrie Fisher, who recently passed away at age 60, had a minor role in Dishonored.
According to Glixel, Fisher recorded several lines for developer Arkane Studios' stealth game and her work is well hidden. You have to kill a certain propaganda officer during the "Return to the Tower" mission.
Afterwards, late in the game, you have to pay close attention to spot her voice coming over the public address system in Dunwall, Dishonored's main setting.
Fisher tells people not to "interfere with the regular transfer of deceased persons to disposal centers in the Flooded District" or that "any disturbance in the region of Dunwall Tower this evening has been the result of a previously scheduled training exercise."

Call of Duty Bests Battlefield for November's Top Sales Spot
According to The NPD Group, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was the top-selling game for November 2016.
Nipping at Call of Duty's heels was Battlefield 1, which dropped down one place from last month, where it was the best-selling game for October 2016.
Pokemon Sun and Moon had strong showings, especially considering digital sales for the 3DS games weren't included in NPD's numbers. According to the release, Sun and Moon had the strongest launch of any Pokemon game in the franchise's history, beating out Black and White "despite having 19 fewer days in market" during their launch month.

The next installment of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series will also be the first to skip the last generation consoles.
The company announced today that The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will not be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in either digital or physical form.
Those looking to play the third season of Telltale's series on a new generation of consoles will still be able to carry over their saves. Through a process detailed on the studio's website, saves from The Walking Dead — Season 2 can carry over through a player's Telltale account.

Fallout Minecraft Mash-Up Pack Coming to Consoles
Bethesda's post-apocalyptic wasteland is coming to Minecraft in the form of a Fallout Mash-Up Pack for the console versions of Mojang's popular world-building game.
In a post on the game's official website, Mojang's Marsh Davies announced the Fallout Mash-Up Pack will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita for $5.99 USD (or your local equivalent).
In addition to transforming the world into an expansive wasteland filled with ghouls and mutants, the Fallout Mash-Up Pack features 44 skins based on various characters from the post-apocalyptic franchise. The user interface is also getting a revamp that sports a "retro-futuristic" look reminiscent of the Pip-Boy.

Lionhead Tracked Down a Teenage Fable Leaker and Threatened to Tell His Mother
Sam van Tilburgh, formerly of Lionhead Studios and now of Gfinity, has revealed the tactics employed to stop Fable leaks being posted back in 2003.
On a recent BAFTA Games Panel titled "Who Rules Games?", van Tilburgh recounted the time a young hacker got hold of screenshots and other information about Fable that was never meant to be released (the story begins at 34:12 in the video below).
The group, called Kibitz, was a small group of hackers, and one of the screenshots "was the hero of Fable stabbing a little kid through the head. It was never meant to be released, for obvious reasons."

Microsoft Offers Free Game to Celebrate Backward Compatible Milestone
Microsoft is celebrating its 300th game available as part of the Xbox One backwards compatibility program by letting players download a free game.
Lost Odyssey, one of the few JRPGs for Xbox 360, can be added to Xbox Live subscribers' libraries for free before December 31, 2016.
Additionally, Blue Dragon, another JRPG for 360, is now available for download in the Xbox store as part of the backwards compatibility program, but it's not offered free of charge.
This morning Xbox head Phil Spencer said almost half of all Xbox One owners take advantage of the Xbox 360 backwards compatible feature introduced to the system.

These Assassin's Creed Shoes Are Surprisingly Tasteful
Ubisoft has collaborated with the California-based shoe company Supra to release Assassin's Creed-themed footwear.
As shown on Supra's official site, the shoes come in three different styles. The cheapest, the Stacks II, costs $75, the Scissor costs $100, and the most expensive of the group, the Skytop III, will run you $110 (all totals USD). The Skytop III, as of earlier today, sold out on Supra's online store, though there will be a limited release in stores.

November Saw PS4 Regain Its Spot at the Top of Console Sales
The PlayStation 4 was the top selling console for November, taking back the spot from its rival console, the Xbox One.
Sony confirmed to us the PS4 was the best seller in the US, but had no formal statement on the matter.
Up until November, Xbox One was the top selling console in the US for four straight months, something the company credited to the launch of its revised Xbox One S console.
November saw the release of Sony's PlayStation 4 Pro, the upgraded version of the base PS4 hardware. November was also loaded with Black Friday sales, which no doubt helped move units, especially discounted, older PS4 SKUs.

Injustice: Ground Zero #1 Review
DC's Injustice universe is trapped in a sort of limbo right now. The prequel comic recently wrapped up after devoting years to exploring the lead-up to the video game in painstaking detail. And while there's a sequel comic on the way, that series won't be debuting until closer to the release of the Injustice 2 game. So how to fill that gap? DC's solution is to introduce a new Injustice comic that directly adapts the events of the original game. It's not necessarily the most exciting angle, though the fact that Harley Quinn is the main protagonist promises that this series won't be a straightforward rehash.
That's the hope anyway. It's tough to get a good sense of how Ground Zero will adapt the game based on this first issue (which, as per usual, reprints the first two digital chapters). The first chapter boils down to Harley recounting the events of Injustice Years One through Five, ranging from Superman's ll-fated clash with the Joker to his ultimate rise to power as a global tyrant. The fact that all of this is filtered through Harley's whimsical worldview does help give it a little added flavor, but at the end of the day this chapter is still more recap than real story. But things do pick up in the second chapter, when Batman dispatches Harley (mostly to get her out of his hair) to attack a factory producing more super-pills for the Regime.

Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 5 Release Date Announced
The season finale of Batman: The Telltale Series will release on December 13, Telltale Games announced today.
Episode 5, titled "City of Light," will be available digitally worldwide for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and compatible iOS and Android devices.
Spoilers for previous Batman: The Telltale Series episodes follow.
In the season finale, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to carry out the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name. The fate of the city and the Wayne family will depend on the choices you make, according to Telltale.
In addition, City of Light will begin in "very different places" depending on the decisions you made in Episode 4: Guardian of Gotham.

Why Marvel vs Capcom 4 Needs the X-Men Universe
With the probability of seeing Marvel vs Capcom 4 climbing suddenly from “pipe dream” to “distinct possibility” within the last few days, fans of Capcom’s long-running Vs. series have experienced a mix of elation and trepidation. Early reports indicate that Marvel wants to stay focused on characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), possibly even to the exclusion of X-Men-related characters like Magneto and Wolverine.

First Two TWD Season 3 Episodes to Be Released Together
The first two episodes of Telltale Games' third season of The Walking Dead, titled A New Frontier, will be released simultaneously when the season premieres on December 20.
Telltale revealed the dual-episode premiere during The Game Awards with an extended look at the first episode's opening. The new look at season 3 revealed the introduction of the new character Javier, who was first announced as a playable character when the season was spotlighted at E3 2016. The season will also star returning protagonist Clementine.
Telltale also revealed in an accompanying press release that season 3 will serve as both a fresh chance for newcomers to jump into the series while also ensuring players of the last two seasons will see their previous choices impact the story to come. The season will be "tailored" as a new beginning for those starting with season 3, while Telltale promises seasoned players "will have multiple options for quickly configuring their tailored backstory" when importing saves from previous seasons. Telltale will be offering more details on the save features for season 3 in the days to come.

Telltale Confirms Guardians of the Galaxy Series
At The Game Awards tonight, Telltale announced Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: A Telltale Series.
The series will span five episodes and launches in 2017 on PC, consoles, and mobile.
Telltale announced its partnership with Marvel way back in 2015, but didn’t confirm a specific franchise at the time. Tonight’s reveal confirms rumors that circulated last month and comes just in time for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which hits theaters in May of next year.

Are Guns in Video Games Holding the Medium Back?
‘The American Dream’ is a VR game where your hands are a pair of floating guns, and you must complete menial, everyday tasks - feed yourself, go to work, feed your children - using only your bullets, your magazines, and your gosh-darned patriotic attitude. With its Norman Rockwell-kissed aesthetic and a (not unkind) satirical take on the Second Amendment, The American Dream is a very American game.
It is, however, currently being developed in Australia, a country that enacted strict gun control laws in 1996. For many of us who grew up in antipodean countries, our obsession with guns in video games was, and continues to be, in contrast to our nonplussed environment. In New Zealand, for instance, police officers don’t even carry firearms. According to Nicholas McDonnell, whose studio Samurai Punk is behind The American Dream, this mental tug-of-war formed much of the inspiration for the game’s gentle satire. “

Injustice: Year Five Annual #1 Review
Once again, DC is capping off a volume of Injustice with a standalone annual issue. But unlike the Year Four annual, which briefly brought writer Tom Taylor back into the fold and directly set the stage for the Year Five status quo, this issue is more in line with the other Injustice annuals. It offers a trio of what are essentially "lost" stories set during writer Brian Buccellato's Year Five run. As such, it's a decent read for those who need a little more Injustice to fill the wait until the sequel comic, but only one of these tales is particularly noteworthy.
First, Buccellato and artist Mike S. Miller touch base with Harley Quinn in the aftermath of Year Five. Disillusioned and alone, Harley is prepared to hang up her costume for good when she runs afoul of a the Joker Gang. Buccellato is basically setting up Harley for her role in the Injustice: Ground Zeroes comic here. The script toys with the idea that even someone as twisted as Joker can become a symbol for positive change and resistance, but never really digs deep enough. Nor does it examine the tragedy of Harley coming so close to reclaiming her old life and then slipping back into old habits. Buccellato delivers a decent Harley story, especially with Miller's energetic pencils bringing life to the pages, but there's a nagging sense that more could have been accomplished with the character.

GTA 4 Patched for First Time in 6 Years
New content is being released for Grand Theft Auto V all the time, but that doesn't mean Rockstar isn't still supporting its old games.
According to Kotaku, Grand Theft Auto IV has received its first patch in six years.
The patch contains some general bug fixes, and the game shows its age by solving an issue caused by graphics cards with more than 2GB of VRAM. The patch also adds Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 to the compatible OS check.
GTA IV was released back in 2008, and at the time, IGN gave it a 10 out of 10. The franchise as a whole has shipped hundreds of millions of units, with GTA V contributing 70 million of them.

BioShock's Rapture Recreated Using 35,000 LEGO Bricks
Imagine Rigney is no stranger to building BioShock-inspired LEGO creations. Rigney, a huge BioShock fan, took his first swing at recreating a piece of BioShock Infinite by building a replica Sky Hook and model of Columbia, Infinite's setting. More recently, Rigney worked to recreate Rapture, the setting of the original game in the series, to mini-figure scale.
Rigney told 2K it took around 200-300 hours to complete the sprawling build, saying that figure "doesn’t count the design time in my head."
Rigney said the choices made as to what went into the rooms in the Rapture recreation came down to a matter of personal preference.

Xbox One Game Streaming Coming Oculus Rift Next Month
Xbox has today confirmed a new app that will allow gamers to stream Xbox One games to an Oculus Rift via their home network and Windows 10 PC will be available for free on the Oculus Store from December 12.
Note that the new software won’t suddenly and magically turn your Xbox One games (and backward compatible Xbox 360 games) into virtual reality experiences; the app will simply stream your Xbox games onto a large, virtual screen within a small selection of VR environments. It may suit those seeking a little more privacy while playing, or those keen to trick your eyes into thinking you own a far, far larger television than your brain knows you can afford.

Halo 4 Creative Director Josh Holmes Departs 343
Josh Holmes, studio head of first-person shooter development at 343 Industries, is leaving the Halo-focused studio.
Speaking on Halo Waypoint, Holmes talked about his past seven years at 343 and explained why he's moving on.
"I have loved every moment here on Halo, but I find myself drawn to new horizons," he said.
"This month I’m leaving 343 Industries and excited for my next adventure to pursue independent game development," he continued.
Before becoming a studio head at 343, Holmes served as the creative director of Halo 4. With his departure, Chris Lee will take over in his place, previously having served as head of production on Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians.

Microsoft has revealed the free lineup of games that will be available for Xbox One and Xbox 360 players in Decembers as part of Games with Gold.
The full list and periods of availability to download these games for free are:
- Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition — December 1-31, Xbox One
- Outlast — December 16 - January 15, Xbox One
- Outland — December 1-15, Xbox 360 and Xbox One

Telltale’s Walking Dead New Frontier Release Date Revealed
Telltale announced today that A New Frontier, the third season of its The Walking Dead series, will premiere worldwide on December 20th.
That day, episode one will be available for purchase digitally for $4.99 on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, iOS, and Android. A Season Pass containing access to all five episodes of the season as they're released will cost $24.99.
For players who prefer a physical copy, on February 7, 2017, Telltale will release a Season Pass disc containing the first episode and access to episodes 2-5 as they’re released. The disc will be available for Xbox One and PS4 for $29.99 and is currently available for pre-order.

Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 4: Guardian Of Gotham Review
Episode four of Telltale’s Batman series, Guardian of Gotham, adds a small amount of tension to an already very dramatic, multi-faceted series, but doesn’t make much story progress while doing so. Jumping off of episode three’s cliffhanger, the first minutes are rife with exciting, anxious tension from the get-go, but it almost completely throws that away with poor pacing decisions in the first act.
Episode four opens with the blatantly shoehorned-in introduction of Telltale’s version of the Joker, who unfortunately has no bearing on any of the conflicts I’m invested in. A character I should be enamoured with and excited about instead felt like a frustrating, heavy-handed brick wall standing between me and those I’ve spent around eight in-game hours developing relationships with. And Bruce Wayne’s decision to sit by the Joker and listen to him spout character-building nonsense totally ignores all of the remarkably pressing personal and professional issues it seems like he should be focused on, too, which is wildly out of character.

How Minecraft Has Evolved, and the Community With It
My first Minecraft experience was in 2010 on a friend’s crappy laptop. I’d seen a few people talk about it - one of my Facebook friends kept sharing YouTube videos about this bizarre, blocky game, and while my curiosity had been sparked, I had no idea what the appeal was. Nor could I ever have guessed how much it would grow and evolve, and the community with it.
That year I played it a couple of times, struggling to build a crappy shelter for the night with vague instructions from another new player. I built a basic wood block house in the only game mode available at the time - Survival Mode. It was also pretty surprising to me that even in that time, a few updates had been added. It was oddly exciting to boot it up and not know what change I might get, and to discuss those changes with the few other people I knew who played it.

Portal Easter Eggs Finally Discovered in LEGO Dimensions
Though LEGO Dimensions has entered its second year of content with new level and character packs, players are still finding secrets hidden within the game's original launch content, including a newly discovered set of Portal Easter eggs.
Members of Bricks to Life (via Kotaku) have uncovered four separate appearances of Doug Rattmann throughout the LEGO Dimensions Portal level pack, which released alongside the original game. Rattman can be found hiding throughout the Aperture test chambers in LEGO Dimensions, as seen in the video below.

The Elder Scrolls series is one of my favorite video game worlds — I love it even more than its post-apocalyptic cousin, Fallout. With over 60 hours already spent in Skyrim Special Edition, it’s fair to say I really enjoy exploring the expansive world of Skyrim, again and again. But it’s also clear there are plenty of things Bethesda needs to change, and the five years between the initial release and special edition have done little to quash these problems.
The next installment of the Elder Scrolls series is still quite a ways off, but it’s never too early to start talking about what needs to change for The Elder Scrolls VI.
