Twisted Pixel Is an Indie Studio Again

Twisted Pixel -- the developer of Splosion Man, Comic Jumper, The Gunstringer, Lococyle, and more -- is spinning out of Microsoft to once again become an independent studio.

Microsoft purchased Twisted Pixel in 2011. Since then, Twisted Pixel's Josh Bear added, "we’ve always kept a background dialog open with them about the idea of returning to an independent studio model if the timing made sense for us.”

Twisted Pixel Executive Producer Bill Muehl added, "This transition has been in the works for a few months, with both parties working together to lay the groundwork for us to spin out and become independent again. We’re looking forward to the new relationships and platforms this will open up to us and continuing our strong partnership with Microsoft on future titles for their platforms.”

Sniper Elite Series Sales Pass 10 Million

Rebellion has announced that the Sniper Elite series has now surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide.

"Whether you've bought one or whether you've bought all of our Sniper Elite products, thank you very much for supporting indie development in the UK," said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley.

To celebrate 10 years making Sniper Elite and the 10 million units sold, Rebellion has planned a month of special content, including new videos, livestreams, and giveaways.

In addition, this week there is a Steam sale discounting the Sniper Elite Trilogy by 81 percent, and there are also deals on the series on the PlayStation Store in Europe.

In IGN's review of the most recent game in the series, Sniper Elite III, we said that it's a "smart, unexpectedly memorable experience."

BioWare Announces Mass Effect Theme Park Attraction

BioWare has revealed a Mass Effect-themed ride will be opening at California's Great America in 2016. For those not in the know, Great America is in Santa Clara, California.

The ride, which is described as a "dynamic 3D adventure" will be hosted by a live performer and "take guests on a journey to a distant planet, where they will face off against larger-than-life foes and fight to save the day."

Though the Normandy isn't mentioned by name, it does make reference to "Commander Shepard’s favorite ride", so it's likely you'll be boarding the famous vessel, perhaps with Shepherd guiding you through your adventure. With 2016 also when we're expecting to see Mass Effect Andromeda, it's sounding like next year could be a big year for sci-fi fans.

Beautiful Moments in Gaming (2005-2014)

The past 10 years in video games have pushed visuals to new heights of photo-realism. At the same time, the rise of brave, independent games has given a voice and a palette to artists who may not have had an opportunity in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Between these two spectrum, we’ve been treated with a slew of incredible visual experiences that have provided countless moments of beauty and awe. Here are some of our favorites of the past decade. Oh, and be warned, we dig into some spoilers for games like Braid and The Last of Us.

Fumito Ueda and company’s incredible PS2 follow up to Ico took the slow and somber beauty of their first game, and moved the goal-posts to a completely different planet. From the opening cutscene where Wander and his faithful horse carry the body of a sleeping woman into an ancient and abandoned temple, we knew we were in for something special. The first time we stumbled upon any of the 16 Colossi hit us with a supreme sense of awe, dread, and melancholy, and has made the long wait for The Last Guardian a tough one.

GameStop Says Disc-Based Games Are Here to Stay

GameStop CEO Paul Raines thinks physical games aren't going anywhere. Speaking to Fortune, Raines said disc-based games "will be around forever."

Raines referenced a 50% decline in physical music sales and a 60% decline in physical movie sales, but said "even in a doomsday scenario, disc-based games will be around for a long time."

GameStop is well prepared for the digital-distribution future, even if its corporate leadership believes physical media is sticking around. The company did just under a billion US dollars in revenue from digital sales, which accounted for slightly more than 10% of its $9.3 billion in revenue for 2014.

Opinion: Activision’s Black Ops 3 Publicity Stunt Is Irresponsible

Call of Duty games have never shied away from sensitive and political subject matter, but when Activision’s official Call of Duty account started "live reporting" a fictional terrorist attack, we saw a marketing move exit the realm of entertainment.

2.88 million people follow the @callofduty Twitter account, which recently rebranded its page to reflect its new name: Current Events Aggregate, a faux news outlet whose tagline is "We bring you the real news." The Call of Duty social media page update was pretty believable: Save for the small grey text that said "callofduty," it looked like a media outlet on the Twitter timeline.

It tried very hard to not look like Call of Duty.

IGN's Video Player Has Been Upgraded

One of the most frequent pieces of feedback we get from the IGN community is about our video player, It doesn’t work perfectly for you all the time, and it doesn’t work perfectly for us all the time, either. It’s a feature that we’re constantly working to improve. So for the better part of this year we’ve been hard at work on the IGN video player, both as a tool, and as an experience. And we’re happy to announce we’ve made some big progress with very noticeable improvements.

Without getting too technical, our old video player automatically scaled its resolution depending on your bandwidth. It allowed us to serve up 1080p video to most of you, but to do so we relied on a tiny bit of code that turned out to be very inefficient, especially for older less powerful computers. That code was the root cause of our playback problems for the past few months.

Telltale Confirms Re-Release of Back to the Future: The Game

Telltale Games has announced that it is releasing Back to the Future: The Game as a 30th Anniversary Edition.

This re-release features updated textures and voice work from Biff Tannen's original movie actor, Tom Wilson. There's also some new content, including a behind the scenes video containing interviews with Tom Wilson, co-writer Bob Gale, and AJ LoCascio, the voice of young Marty McFly.

Back to the Future: The Game - 30th Anniversary Edition will be available digitally worldwide on PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 and at retail in the U.S. on October 13. A retail release follows in Europe on October 16.

Rumors of the re-release were circling last month after a listing appeared on Amazon.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Full Download Is Just 4.6GB

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 first update will be bigger than the size of the full-game download.

According to The Games Cabin, players who have pre-ordered the game and are downloading in advance of the full release later today are discovering that the initial download is just 4.6GB. The first update, on the other hand, tops out at 7.7GB.

THPS 5 will have 20-person multiplayer, but no multiplayer will be available on the last-gen console versions. Activision recently revealed the full list of songs set to form the soundtrack of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5.

Which Game is Tim Schafer Proudest Of?

Tim Schafer and has given us many great gaming memories – from Day of the Tentacle to Grim Fandango to Psychonauts to Broken Age – but when he sat down to chat with us for the premiere of our new monthly, hour-long interview show (which debuts tomorrow), we were surprised to find out which of his many hits stood out to him as one of his proudest moments.

“One of things I’m proudest of is Happy Action Theater. Have you ever watched a family playing that together? It’s the most inspiring thing, there’s just so much happiness…little kids laughing…your grandparents playing it…Then the family dog jumps in.”

He goes on to talk about a bad experience with Kinectimals as the catalyst for Happy Action Theater. Apparently, the setup process kept his daughter from petting the tiger on the screen, and she found getting started so difficult and finicky that it almost drove her to tears. As a result, he wanted to create something where “there’s no barrier, everyone just gets in and has fun together.”

Konami: Metal Gear Series Can Continue Without Kojima

Despite recent reports that Konami is scaling back its efforts in the console space, the Japanese publisher has come forward to deny such claims, while also speaking to the viability of the Metal Gear Solid franchise without series creator Hideo Kojima at the helm.

In an interview with Game On Daily (via Videogamer), Konami community manager Graham Day was asked whether or not the Metal Gear franchise could continue with Kojima, to which he replied: "Yeah, course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it's about the characters and I think, yeah..."

Bungie Hotfixes Destiny Three of Coins Exotic Engram Exploit

Bungie has dropped a hotfix to address the latest Three of Coins Exotic Engram exploit.

Update 2.0.0.4 seeks to "address and tackle some of the immediate issues that are impacting the player experience", which includes nerfing your odds of getting an Exotic Engram if you're "rapidly killing Ultras" after consuming a Three of Coins.

It also addresses a selection of other issues, including a problem with Gold Chest completions in the Moments of Triumph challenge, improving the Uncommon and Rare gear drop rate in Year One strikes, and fixes a problem with the High Value Targets quest, where completion did not always reward you with Legendary Marks.

Opinion: I Have No Idea What's Going On In Destiny

At launch I played Destiny pretty casually. I sped through the campaign, did some standard grinding (up to around level 25), and even participated in a Strike or two with whoever happened to be online. And then… I stopped. I moved on to other games.

I’ve never been much for MMOs, and my history with shooters is well documented.  Once I’d finished the story, I felt like I’d seen enough. I sent my Hunter off into the great beyond without a second thought.

In hindsight, I think I might have missed the point. I was playing the game in the same way I would have played Bioshock, or Deus Ex. Running straight from mission to mission, occasionally jumping into PvP matches, and all together avoiding the bells and whistles that would carry Destiny through year one and beyond. I didn’t realize at the time that Destiny is more about the long game, and ultimately about the love of the grind.

LEGO Dimensions Review in Progress

There came a moment when Marty McFly, Chell from Portal, and The Wicked Witch of the West were all fighting a giant Lex Luthor robot atop a building in Springfield when I stopped and wondered just what the hell I was doing. But then again, I was having a complete blast, so who am I to judge?

LEGO Dimensions is the series’ first foray into the Toys to Life genre, and in melding the worlds of video games and physical objects, developer Traveler’s Tales has decided to go with the kitchen sink approach to the game. Throughout the dozens of missions and worlds to explore, you’ll bounce from classic movies like Back to the Future and beloved comics like Batman to amazing games like Portal. This wide-ranging insanity is Dimension’s greatest strength, but also its biggest weakness.

Mighty No. 9 Gets New Release Date

Over 2 years since the project was first announced by Keiji Inafune, Mighty No. 9 will be coming to consoles and PC on February 9, 2016 in North America and February 12 worldwide.

Mighty No. 9 is Inafune's spiritual successor to the Mega Man games he created years ago for Capcom. Mighty No. 9 was first announced in August 2013 at PAX Prime. The game went on to meet its Kickstarter goal in just 48 hours, helped along by a clever announcement trailer that paid homage to Mega Man set pieces and characters.

In April, Comcept announced Mighty No. 9 would release in September 2015, but by July, pre-orders for the Mighty No. 9 signature edition were suddenly cancelled. At Gamescom in August, Comcept officially announced Mighty No. 9 was being delayed due to "bugs and issues pertaining to the online features."

How Psychonauts Almost Killed Double Fine

Psychonauts is, for very good reason, dear to the hearts of many a gamer, but creating it just about killed developer Double Fine, according to the studio’s founder, Tim Schafer.

In an interview with IGN for our upcoming show IGN Unfiltered (premiering Tuesday, September 29), Schafer provided some insight into the period of time following Microsoft’s decision to pull funding on the long-running project. It’s a dark account, including this bit about the lengths he went to in order to pay his employees:

“I borrowed money, I borrowed a lot of money to keep the studio going. I was personally on the line. I would have been in debt for the rest of my life for the money I borrowed to make payroll.”

Black Ops 3 on PS3 and Xbox 360 Won't Have Single Player

Call of Duty: Black Ops III for older generation consoles will not come with the same features as the current-gen versions of the game.

According to the Call of Duty blog, the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will not come with a single player campaign.

“The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware,” Activision posted on the blog.

TBS Is Creating a Counter-Strike: GO League

Turner Broadcasting is partnering with WME/IMG to form a new eSports league featuring Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

According to Variety, TBS will broadcast 20 live events on TV on Friday nights in 2016. The programming will be split into 10 consecutive weeks two times per year and will include playoffs and championship rounds.

“This is a way to bring e-sports to light and the 90 million homes TBS is in,” said TBS president Lenny Daniels.

Daniels also said working with an existing eSports league “didn’t make sense” with the companies’ resources but he did not reveal the dollar amount invested in the league. He did say contestants would be competing for “meaningful prize money.”

Games with Gold Revealed for October

Microsoft has revealed the games that will be part of the Games with Gold program during October.

Xbox Live Gold members will receive four new free games, two on Xbox One, and two on Xbox 360.

On Xbox One, Valiant Hearts: The Great War throughout October, while The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season will be free from October 16 until November 15.

On Xbox 360, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will be free from October 1 until October 15. Then, The Walking Dead: The Complete First Season will be free from October 16 through October 31.

Call of Duty World League Announced

Activision has announced the creation of the Call of Duty World League, which will kick off in January.

The global eSports league is said to "provide a deeper level of engagement with the elite circuit of professional gamers, while also encouraging casual fans and aspiring competitors of Call of Duty to enjoy the thrill of competition across different skill levels."

The Call of Duty World League will be split into two Divisions, The Pro Division and The Challenge Division. Each of these will feed into the grand final at the Call of Duty Championship.

There will be a Pro Division regular season for teams from North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand to compete for their chance to make it to the final.

Sasquatch Secret Uncovered in GTA 5

A reddit user has uncovered the secret of Grand Theft Auto V's Sasquatch peyote, allowing the player to transform into the missing link sometimes known as "Bigfoot."

The thread, titled "Holy mother of God I found the Sasquatch Peyote," lays out the complex circumstances that need to be in place to find the mysterious peyote button that triggers the Sasquatch transformation.

User rkRusty posted to subreddit /r/chiliadmystery with the discovery. The subreddit is dedicated to unraveling the mystery behind the phrase "come back when your story is complete" found within GTA 5, referring to Mt. Chiliad.

Educators have long tried to convince the captive audience of youth that school is, in fact, cool. To very mixed results. Kids are automatically wary of anything adults try to claim is "cool," despite anecdotal evidence to the contrary, and children's television networks are constantly reminding them how dumb adults are. A long day of dry, rote memorization of facts, or perhaps getting knocked on the head by a crumbling asbestos ceiling tile, generally mark the average low-points of the real-world school experience.

But real-life's got nothing on the worst schools video games have to offer. Join us as we learn the ABCs of the worst video game schools.

You know how your school has that one other school that everyone hates? And everyone in that school hates your school, and the whole town gets in on the hate-action when the two schools play each other in sports? Now imagine if members of both schools had to work together to get to the bottom of mysterious kidnappings and attacks. That's pretty much the plot of Rival Schools: United by Fate. Not only are the schools under constant attack, but the students are being brainwashed, and the only way to stop the assaults is through violence against school administrators.

Kickstarter Becomes a Public Benefit Corporation

Kickstarter, the crowdfunding site utilized for Shenmue III and the Veronica Mars movie, has become a public benefit corporation.

That means Kickstarter isn't just focused on profits. Company founder Perry Chen and co-founders Yancey Stickler and Charles Adler issued a statement saying the crowdfunding website also must think about its societal impact.

"Benefit corporations are for-profit companies that are obligated to consider the impact of their decisions on society, not only shareholders," they said. "Radically, positive impact on society becomes part of a benefit corporation’s legally defined goals."

There are a few bright spots in the Transformers' video game history, thankfully.

The Final Episode of Life is Strange Gets a Release Date

The final episode of Life is Strange – Polarized – is expected to be released on October 20. That is, so long as the game is 100 percent ready by then.

In a blog post on the Square Enix website, Dontnod explained the slight caveat.

“We don’t normally announce a date until we know the game is 100% ready but in the spirit of Max’s birthday (today) we wanted to let you know early that we are aiming to release Episode 5 ‘Polarized’ October 20,” writes producer Luc Baghadoust.

Episodes 3 and 4 of Life is Strange were huge game-changers, and episode 5 has high expectations going into it. In our review of episode 4 we said “Dark Room is the most complicated, conflicting episode of Life Is Strange yet. It sets up a finale that could be a genuine stunner, but there’s a lot resting on its shoulders.”

What Platforms and Genres Are Trending at TGS?

IGN is at this year's Tokyo Games Show, and a list of trending platforms and genres supplied to us reveals that mobile continues to dominate the games exhibited at TGS.

iOS and Android games each comprise 252 of the 1283 titles showing at TGS this year - that's nearly 40%, not including the nebulous "other smartphones" and "feature phone" categories. For comparison, the next most prominent platform is PC, which encompasses 186 games (including Steam and browser-based games). Games for current-generation consoles, meanwhile, account for only 244 of exhibited titles.

EA Forced to Remove 13 Women From FIFA 16 Due to NCAA Rules

EA has been compelled to remove 13 women from FIFA 16 due to NCAA concerns that these players would be putting their eligibility for college sports at risk by being included in FIFA 16.

EA has confirmed via a statement on its website that North America’s National Collegiate Athletic Association had contacted the publisher regarding the issue.

“Of the hundreds of players on these rosters, 13 are currently attending or likely to attend NCAA-sanctioned schools in the US,” said the statement. “The NCAA recently informed EA Sports that these 13 student-athletes would be risking their eligibility for collegiate athletics by being included in FIFA 16.”

Report: Fox Engine Overseer Julien Merceron Quits Konami

Julien Merceron, the man responsible for overseeing Konami's Fox Engine, has reportedly parted ways with the studio.

The news was first announced by Gameblog, though independent sources have since confirmed it to IGN.

For those unaware of who Merceron is, he joined Konami back in 2013 as the company's worldwide technology director, and it was during his tenure that the company's bespoke game engine was put into use on both Metal Gear Solid V and the most recent Pro Evolution Soccer titles.

Before that, he spent seven years working in and around Square Enix, including as CTO at IO Interactive, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics before ascending to the rank of global technology director at Square Enix itself.

Why We Already Love Metal Gear Online

Metal Gear Online is the only competitive multiplayer game I can think of that actively rewards players for not killing each other.

I played my first round of the Bounty Hunter mode like I would any other team death match mode. I focused more on depleting enemy respawn tickets as quickly as possible, running around and firing a machine-gun like a madman. This did not work, because Metal Gear Online is smarter, better, and deeper than that, and I'm already in love with what I've played.

Each kill I earned increased my bounty, making me a more meaningful target for my opponents. Likewise, my teammates in their Gear Walkers racking up the kill count became a huge priority for the enemy team, who focused on using Fulton devices to extract our KO’d bodies out of the battlefield.

The Evolution of PES

As Konami celebrates 20 years of its enduring football series, we look back at the key games and moments during its two decades in the spotlight.

Here’s where the PES story really began. ISS wasn’t Konami’s first attempt at a football game, nor was it the first to be viewed from an isometric perspective: EA Sports had got there on the latter count with the original FIFA in 1993, while this shared as much in common with its 8-bit side-scrolling predecessor, Konami Hyper Soccer. It lacked some of the presentational pizzazz of FIFA, not to mention the official licences (these would become familiar points of distinction as the two series became fierce rivals), but while Konami made up names for all the players, they more closely resembled their real world counterparts. This showed a commitment to authenticity for which Konami’s games would soon become renowned.

Injustice: Year Four #10 Review

Injustice: Year Four is fast heading towards its climax as the war between Superman's regime and the Greek gods intensifies. Plus, Harley Quinn is getting into antics, which is always fun. This issue packs in plenty of action of both the humorous and dramatic variety. But as has sometimes been the case with this book, the way the two chapters shift from one to the other results in a fairly disjointed reading experience.

The first chapter collected in this issue focuses on Harley, Billy Batson and Hera as they battle their way through Tartarus and back to the mortal realm. This setup is basically an excuse to watch Harley be goofy and beat up on one mythological creature after another (though Hera gets her licks in, too). Xermanico renders this bloody brawl with plenty of energy, though not with the same level of clarity and sleekness as when he ink's Bruno Redondo's work rather than working solo. Harley's presence in this book has grown increasingly important in terms of maintaining a sense of humor while the general tone and state of the world grow darker. This chapter fulfills that purpose.

IGN's Destiny Sherpa School

Like a number of Destiny players, I got neck-deep in Bungie's 'shared-world shooter' when it launched in late 2014 only to drop out of the game completely once I hit level 20. With the switch to light-based leveling, progressing my hunter guardian suddenly became a grind, and I left the game about a month into its lifespan assuming to never return - my Sparrow effectively on brick stilts in my backyard.

With the arrival of the game-changing 2.0 update a year on from launch (hello, XP-based levelling!), I decided to get back into Destiny yet had no real idea how to go about it when so many of my friends had either left the game or forged too far ahead. Enter Th3Jez, my Destiny 'sherpa', whose seasoned skills helped me to shake the dust off my hunter's cloak and surge my progress from level 20 to level 34 in the space of a week.

Valiant Hearts Creative Director Announces a New Musical Game

Several months after officially announcing his departure from Ubisoft, Valiant Hearts creative director Yoan Fanise is ready to reveal the new project he's been working on.

Collaborating with various composers and Grammy winner Wyclef Jean, Fanise has announced Lost in Harmony, a musical narrative game about a boy named Kaito who travels the world on a skateboard while accompanied by a girl named Aya.

"The idea of Lost in Harmony came from my past experience of blending music into storytelling," he said in an official statement. "Magic happens when you see how, without any word, without any language form, you can provoke feelings into a multicultural audience by playing the right melody.”

NBA 2K16 Companion App Cover Star Announced

2K has announced that Paul George will be the cover star for the NBA 2K16 Companion app, MyNBA2K16.

The two-time NBA All-Star will be the inaugural cover star for the app when it launches for free on October 1. "I've been a long-time fan of the NBA 2K series and love staying close to the game when I'm on the road," he said.

Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1 Coming in October

Telltale Games and Mojang have today confirmed that the first episode of Minecraft: Story Mode, ‘The Order of the Stone’, will be made available digitally worldwide from Tuesday, October 13, 2015.

The episode will be available via the Telltale Online Store, Steam, PSN, Xbox Games Store, and other digital distribution services on October 13. It will be available for iOS and Android beginning Thursday, October 15. Telltale and Mojang note the series will also be coming to Wii U and PS Vita but stopped short of confirming when.

Rockstar Dismisses BBC’s The Gamechangers as ‘Random, Made Up Bollocks’

Rockstar Games has made its disdain for the recently-aired BBC feature The Gamechangers clear via Twitter, dismissing the program as “random, made up bollocks.”

The Gamechangers is set over a three-year period from 2002, which was during the development of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It aired overnight in the UK.

Destiny: The Taken King Review in Progress

Destiny: The Taken King went live last night, and I spent the first 7 hours of my play time concentrating on beating its all-new campaign missions. You can expect to see my final review of The Taken King on Monday the 21st, after I get to play the new raid for a bit, but here’s what I’m thinking so far.

After having played Destiny and its expansions previous for over 100 hours, I was surprised by my scaredy-cat reaction to the tortured new enemy race introduced in Destiny: The Taken King. Called the Taken, these deadly enemies look like twisted versions of creatures I’ve fought before, but they use a welcome set of different tactics (much like Mass Effect 3’s Reaper-ized versions of alien races). Some Taken split into two, some toss deadly orbs of energy that can block your vision, and others generate protective bubbles as a shield. They forced me to cower behind cover and assess each incoming threat carefully, not just because their attacks are deadly, but because they’re genuinely creepy and malformed. And with each unnerving encounter I had in Taken King’s eight-mission campaign, I came to enjoy and respect how gracefully they complement Destiny’s already-great run-and-gun gameplay.

Destiny: First Impressions of The Taken King

Does The Taken King finally correct all of Destiny’s problems? The short answer is no, but it yet again improves many of the areas where players felt the shared world shooter was lacking. The story makes sense, the mission system is easy to follow, and the path to level 40 has been adjusted so it’s closer to a traditional MMO experience.

The story elements see the most important changes. Bungie clearly put a large emphasis on the overall arc told with the Taken King, which includes a cohesive narrative, gorgeous cutscenes, and a plot that will leave you wanting to continue the side quests to find answers the main campaign leaves lingering. This is a huge step in the right direction for Destiny’s future. When speaking with Mark Noseworthy the Executive producer of The Taken King he actually claimed to make it a personal goal to improve the story. "The narrative with Destiny has been 'I love playing Destiny, but I hate that it’s not better.' With the Taken King we wanted to change that narrative to 'I love playing Destiny, and the Taken King made it better.'That’s my personal goal." It would seem that year 2 has succeeded in that goal.  Unfortunately, the Year 1 campaign doesn’t benefit from any of the new storytelling or cutscene polish, and while the new voice of Nolan North as the Ghost adds a little bit to year 1, new players coming into the game are advised to use the auto-leveling Spark of Light consumable so they can jump into the good stuff.

4 of Destiny's New Strikes And How They Rank

Strikes are a rather important part of Destiny. While you'll usually play through them if you're a completionist like myself, sometimes they can be skipped altogether... unless you want to complete a weekly Nightfall or Weekly Strike for Strange Coins that is. For that very reason we've collected all four of the new strikes in The Taken King or your viewing pleasure. Get ready guardians. Some of these are going to be a challenge.

Easily one of my favorite new strike missions, the Echo Chamber strike in Destiny begins with your team deactivating a set of shields and portals as they make their way through Venus to the final boss. Once there you'll again have to deactivate a set of force fields so you can force the final boss out of his hiding spot where he'll be vulnerable. This was a lot of fun to do with a group of friends.

NFL Blitz has this big, blinking leaderboard screen that runs constantly for “Champions” who have finished the game. So I figured I could use our office arcade machine to send messages to and about IGN’s own Fran “7.9” Mirabella. But it wasn't as easy as just winning a lot of games to wipe out other players' scores. I had to win a lot of games and incorporate other people's leaderboard entries, because I wasn't the only one playing.

LEGO Dimensions Voice Cast Announced

Michael J. Fox is reprising his role as Marty McFly in LEGO Dimensions, joining Elizabeth Banks, Chris Pratt and more stars in the toys-to-life game.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced many of the voice cast members for LEGO Dimensions, with Fox and Christopher Lloyd re-recording lines for the Back to the Future portion of the game. In addition, Pratt and Banks are back as Emmet and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie, with Alison Brie and Charlie Day also providing voices for their characters from the film.

Gary Oldman will serve as the main villain in LEGO Dimensions called Lord Vortech. Community's Joel McHale, meanwhile, is providing the voice of X-PO, the game's robot guide.

Atlus' flagship RPG sequel is still set to release in 2015 -- and in case you hadn't noticed, 2015 is rapidly running out. A Persona 5 release date is almost a given for Tokyo Game Show (especially given there's a major Persona-themed event during TGS). This is a Japanese-centric show, and giving a launch date for one of the most renowned JRPGs around makes a lot of sense for this event. It's unlikely we'll spend any time playing it, but a new trailer ahead of this year's release also seems likely. Here's hoping there's also a simultaneous Western release in there as well.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Save Corruption Bug Fixed on PS4 and PC

Konami has confirmed its fixed a bug that was causing saved games to become corrupt when Quiet was brought as a buddy on missions 29 and 42, but only on PS4 and PC.

The company has tweeted out the "Quiet Bug" as its come to be known should now be a thing of the past on those platforms, while "the remaining platforms will follow soon".

Additionally, Konami has confirmed ongoing server issues are being looked into, with fixes hopefully set to roll out on all platforms "soon".

Battlefield Hardline: Robbery Release Date Revealed

EA has announced that Battlefield Hardline: Robbery, the second Hardline expansion pack, will be available on September 16.

The news comes via a Tweet from the official Battlefield Twitter account.

"The theme of this pack is the Big Score," reads the expansion's details page. It'll have four new maps, a new 5v5 game mode, new weapons and gadgets, and two new vehicles. We first learned about Battlefield Hardline: Robbery at Gamescom this year.

Curt Schilling's 38 Studios Lawsuit Settlement Reached

A partial settlement of $12.5 million USD has been awarded by a judge in a case against 38 Studios, the former game company of legendary Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.

Schilling's company, which released Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, folded a few months after the game released. The company had been awarded a $75 million loan by the state of Rhode Island's Economic Development Corporation.

While some of Schilling's co-defendants have settled so far, including this most recent settlement, Schilling still is fighting the lawsuit.

The complaint against the defendants says that 38 Studios failed to inform the EDC that, according to its own internal projections, the studio was destined to fail. Kingdoms of Amalur was not a bad game-- far from it. We gave Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning a 9 in our review, praising its gameplay as putting it ahead of many other RPGs.

What to Expect From Destiny's Red Bull-Exclusive Quest

Red Bull has sent a fireteam into its exclusive Destiny: The Taken King quest, and from that experience, new details have emerged.

Completing the quest successfully unlocks a consumable item which upgrades the SR-0 Swiftriver Sparrow to the SR-1 Swiftriver, which is a "faster version of the sparrow received at the beginning of the quest."

The quest for Destiny's new expansion can be unlocked by redeeming codes on the tabs of branded Red Bull cans. Showing off the new quest, Red Bull's fireteam was required to complete a modified version of level 40 "The Sunless Cell" strike, along with a timed, level 40 Shield Brothers strike.

Twitch Plays Dark Souls Defeats Ornstein and Smough

With the help of a system that pauses the game until Twitch users can vote on the next command, Twitch Plays Dark Souls has managed to defeat the iconic Anor Londo-based duo, Ornstein & Smough.

Equipped with the Zweihander, Eagle Shield, Ring of Favor & Protection, and the Wolf Ring, the crowd-players took down Ornstein first before moving on to Smough. Near the very end of the battle, the player manages to get the last few hits in on Smough with no Estus Flasks left and very low health.

You can see an edited version of the fight, which removes the pauses during voting, below.

Twitch Plays Dark Souls began about a month ago, a crowd-played event that challenged Twitch viewers to cooperatively play Dark Souls using real-time chat commands.

Bungie to Release Destiny The Taken King Soundtrack

Bungie is releasing a new soundtrack of music from Destiny: The Taken King.

The soundtrack -- which launches alongside the Year Two The Taken King content on September 15, 2015 -- will also include music from The Dark Below and House of Wolves.

“As the World of Destiny continues to evolve, so must the music that brings it to life," says Bungie's composing team in this week's Bungie update. "The heroic moment when you first grabbed Crota’s sword. The legendary fanfare that heralded the capture of Skolas for the Queen. PlayStation 4 Leads Console Sales in August 2015

PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console of August, outselling Xbox One and Wii U, according to Sony. An official statement from the company explained, “We would like to thank our fans and partners for their ongoing support of PlayStation and for making PS4 the top-selling console and No. 1 in software sales in North America in August."

Last month also "saw the most successful beta in PS4 history with Call of Duty: Black Ops III, marking a significant milestone in our new partnership with Activision. We look forward to furthering momentum with the launch of Destiny: The Taken King next week.”

Madden 16 saw the most sales success on PS4 last month, while Microsoft stated, “This is going to be an amazing holiday for Xbox fans, and it kicked off in August with the releases of Rare Replay and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, the first of seven must-play games coming exclusively to Xbox One this year. Coinciding with the release of these highly-rated exclusives and others like Madden NFL 16 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Xbox One continued to gain momentum in August, with sales in the U.S. up 26 percent over August 2014."
