Xbox Co-Creator on Convincing Bill Gates to Approve Xbox

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates took some convincing before signing off on the company's vision for the original Xbox, and Ed Fries recently stopped by the IGN office to share the story.

According to the Xbox co-creator, Gates wasn't too happy when he learned, during their proposal meeting on Valentine's Day of 2000, about their plan to veer away from Windows in favor of closed gaming platform. "Bill walks in, he's holding our Powerpoint deck, throws it down on the table and says, 'This is a

insult to everything I've done at this company'—basically was the quote. And that was the start of the meeting," Fries said on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered.

BioShock Collection, Release Date Officially Revealed

2K has officially announced BioShock: The Collection, headed to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC for $59.99 in North America on September 13, Australia on September 15, and internationally on September 16.

BioShock: The Collection will include BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite remastered in 1080p and running at 60fps on all platforms. 2K worked with Blind Squirrel Games on the remaster. On PC, the collection will not include BioShock Infinite, as it “already meets current-gen console standards and runs smoothly on high visual settings,” according to 2K.

Greens Seeking to Invest $158M in Aussie Games Industry

The Greens have announced a $158 million initiative to boost the Australian games industry. The plan is based on the recommendations from an April report out of the Senate Environment and Communications References Committee. The report on the future of Australia’s video game development industry, which contained a variety of proposals designed to stimulate the sector, was called for by The Greens this time last year.

Original Xbox Pitched as a PC in Disguise

Before Microsoft stepped into the console market with Xbox, the original pitch at the company was to create a PC gaming machine that looked like a console.

Xbox co-creator Ed Fries shared the story behind the original Xbox's inception on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, noting it was "people like Seamus

and Otto

" who approached him about making a game console. Fries said that because they were "DirectX evangelists" who'd been heavily invested in "the part of Windows that games use," their original idea was "to make a console that was really a PC."

According to the Xbox co-creator, their pitch was as follows: "It's gonna look like a game console—you'll stick a CD in and it'll install it quietly in the background but it'll really be just a PC CD, and then it'll play like a console but it'll really just be a PC game."

EA Investigates FIFA's FUT 'Chemistry Inconsistency' Issues

EA Sports has launched an investigation following reports of a "chemistry inconsistency" in FIFA's Ultimate Team (FUT).

In FIFA Ultimate Team, players should be affected by "Team Chemistry". In theory, the more familiar teammates are with each other - or the more they play together for you - the higher the chemistry, and the better the performance.

However, as this Reddit thread attests, some fans continue to report issues with the chemistry algorithm, with many high-profile players failing to perform as they should - particularly those added to FUT packs mid-season.

July's Free Games With Gold Revealed

Microsoft has announced the next titles joining its Games with Gold roster.

Two Xbox One games, The Banner Saga 2 and Tumblestone, and two Xbox 360 games, Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six: Vegas 2 and Tron: Evolution, will be available for free in July for Xbox Live Gold members.

Fans Solve One of GTA 5's Biggest Mysteries

An elite team of Grand Theft Auto V players have resolved a major mystery.

The hunt began with the discovery of the golden peyote plant – a hallucinogenic herb that transforms the player into Bigfoot. Then, in search of more of the hidden herb, players took to combing through the game’s code in the hopes of finding more spawn locations.

And more locations they did find. Not only did the players find coordinates, they also found coded messages from the developers at RockStar. One such message reads “he was wrong to start his hunt on Tuesday.”

What the herb-hunting taskforce deduced was each plant must appear on a specific day of the week, under specific weather conditions. With one golden peyote found, this left the team only another six to go.

Microsoft, Nintendo, GTA Publisher Weigh in on New Consoles

The biggest story leading up to E3 2016, and of the show itself, was the existence of new hardware from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo that will be released over the course of the next year. As the video game industry shifts to a new business model where consoles will be refreshed at a much faster pace, the Associated Press spoke to Microsoft, GTA publisher Take-Two, and Nintendo for insight on what this means for the future.

At E3 Microsoft unveiled Project Scorpio, a stronger version of the company’s Xbox One coming in 2017, alongside the Xbox One S, a redesign of its existing system that adds 4K video output. "We're trying to shift the culture and put the power of when to upgrade in the hands of gamers, as opposed to it being driven by technology or a corporate initiative," said Shannon Loftis, head of publishing at Microsoft Game Studios, told the AP in an interview. "I hope that we don't frustrate gamers. We're responding to them. The feedback we've received is that they want more choices."

The announcement of a Left 4 Dead sequel so soon after the original was initially met with skepticism. But much to the elation of zombie slayers everywhere, Left 4 Dead 2 improved upon every aspect of its critically acclaimed predecessor. The sequel added melee weapons, environment specific infected and cranked the gore up to 11. But in spite of its additions and improvements, its place on this list is secured by the same sublime co-op mechanics that also made the original great. Activision Almost Bought Rare

Before Microsoft acquired Rare as a first-party developer for the Xbox platform in 2002, there was a bidding war over the former Nintendo developer, and Activision almost came out on top.

"So we put in a bid and then Activision outbid us, and it looked like we were going to lose the deal," Xbox co-creator Ed Fries explained on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered, which debuts tomorrow.

Thanks to a move by former Xbox head Robbie Bach at the eleventh hour, however, Microsoft was able to secure the studio. "And then at the very last minute Robbie increased our bid and we won the deal. And that was it," Fries said, adding, "Who knows what could have happened with Rare."

WWE 2K17 Release Date and Cover Star Revealed

WWE 2K17 will be releasing on October 11, and Brock Lesnar has been revealed as the cover star.

“My career has been defined by dominating every opportunity presented to me,” said Lesnar. “I am excited for my newest opportunity representing WWE 2K17 as the franchise’s ambassador and honored to serve as the WWE 2K17 cover Superstar.”

Bungie Details Legacy Console Support for Destiny

Come August, Destiny will no longer receive major game updates and content releases on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Destiny: The Taken King will still be available on the legacy consoles, though there'll be limited access to events. The Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner events will no longer be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; players who wish to continue with these events must upgrade to a new console and purchase Rise of Iron when it's released.

The same goes for live events, like Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days, or the Sparrow Racing League.

However, legacy console players will still have access to heroic missions and strikes, as well as daily and weekly crucible challenges. Xûr will continue to sell his wares in the Tower or the Reef, but some items will no longer be available, like individual exotic weapons and armor pieces. Encrypted exotic engrams will now decrypt into Year 2 exotics, and encrypted legacy engrams will decrypt into Year 1 exotics.

The Story of the Cancelled Daredevil Game

Marvel and Sony were once working on a Daredevil game, but after internal problems and alleged drug abuse, the game never saw the light of day.

According to the latest video by Unseen64, the game was set to be a linear brawler for PlayStation 2 and later the Xbox, but the game’s scope changed considerably once Sony got involved with developer 5000ft Inc. The plan was to coincide the game’s release with the Ben Affleck Daredevil film everyone pretends never existed.

With Sony wanting something more, the developers attempted to make the game more open-world. At one point, much to the dismay of Marvel, Sony decided Daredevil: The Man Without Fear needed to capitalise on the popularity of the - wait for it - Tony Hawk’s series, which would see Daredevil exploring the whole of Hell’s Kitchen and being able to grind along railings and rooftops.

MS Tried Partnering With Nintendo and Sony Before Xbox

Before Microsoft began developing the first Xbox, the company went to both Nintendo and Sony to see if either were interested in partnering to release a console; both companies turned the offer down, however.

When asked on the latest episode of IGN Unfiltered whether or not Microsoft ever considered buying Nintendo, Xbox co-creator Ed Fries replied, "When we first started thinking about doing Xbox we met with Nintendo and we sat down with Iwata and others and we said, 'This is what we want to do. Could we partner? Could we work together on this?' And basically they said no."

Bungie Addresses Destiny's June Update Problems

Destiny's June update introduced a bunch of new changes—both large and small—to the game, but some of them didn't work out as planned.

Bungie's new Players in Activity feature intended to help players find their friends "in the activities

to play." Despite early feedback regarding it as a "neat feature," it created problems in-game for folks with lots and lots of friends.

To address the issue, Bungie issued Hot Fix 2.3.0.1 to "cap the display at a maximum of ten friends."

The fix should result in Trials of Osiris returning today. Once Bungie confirms that everything is working as intended, the developer will let players know.

Bungie will also reschedule Lord Saladin's Tower appearance so that Iron Banner can happen next week.

11 Big Missing Games of E3 2016

While E3 2016 was a week filled with amazing games like Zelda, God of War, and Sea of Thieves. But alongside this wealth of promising experiences were some noticeable absences. Some of which, like CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077, we knew about before the show. Others came as a complete surprise. Here are 11 of the biggest games that were missing from E3.

After getting a fresh look at Kingdom Hearts 3 at last year’s show, its absence in 2016 was noticeable, if not entirely unexpected. The next few months is all about Final Fantasy XV for Square, and they don’t want to complicate the message by bringing up their big games of 2017 and beyond. Still, fingers crossed we see Sora and company later this year at TGS or PSX. Oh, and while we're at it, a tease of a Marvel or Star Wars-based level wouldn't hurt, either.

Inafune: 'I Own All the Problems' With Mighty No. 9

Game designer Keiji Inafune has spoken about the reaction to Mighty No. 9, but what everyone thought he said isn't actually the reality.

During a live stream yesterday, there was some confusion when Inafune appeared to say the release of Mighty No. 9 is "better than nothing." However, it has now come to light he said nothing of the sort.

According to Kotaku, former Capcom employee Ben Judd was translating on the stream, and adds his own commentary as well as the translation. The "better than nothing" line was added by Judd.

Last year the first free campaign, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, was released. The studio is now working on campaigns for Specter Knight and King Knight too. Specter Knight will be coming first, although the team is working on all upcoming content simultaneously.

Specter Knight's new abilities include a slashing attack, which can also be activated in mid-air for a "Dash Slash." He also has a wall climb, however he can only climb a set distance before falling down again, so you'll need to use abilities in combination to reach new heights.

Mighty No. 9 Delayed Again On Xbox 360

Mighty No. 9 has been delayed on Xbox 360, with other platforms still waiting for release.

The reasoning for the delay comes down to a bug found by Microsoft during the certification process.

Via the official website: "There were issues regarding the publishing process for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and a certification bug was found in the final round of testing which is delaying the release of that version for several days.

“Our team has already re-submitted the build to Deep Silver (and to Microsoft), and we expect it to go gold within a few days if all goes according to plan.

The post goes on to mention that Kickstarter backers who opted for the Xbox 360 version will receive Steam keys in the meantime, and “once the Xbox 360 version is ready for release we will send out those codes to the relevant backers ASAP."

Dishonored 2, No Man's Sky Included in Into the Pixel Art Exhibit

The official selections for the 2016 Into the Pixel art collection were on display at E3 2016.

The exhibit "honors video game artists who continue to push the interactive entertainment art form forward," and is a joint effort between the Entertainment Software Association and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

AIAS president Martin Rae said the exhibit is welcome respite from the "the craziness of the conference" for many convention goers.

The 2015 Into the Pixel winners were on display at DICE 2016, and featured selections from games like Destiny, Overwatch, and Assassin's Creed. Details on Into the Pixel can be found on its website, including past winners.

Injustice 2 Is Very Similar to Injustice 1

After watching the debut trailer for Injustice 2, I was equal parts nervous and excited. What was with everyone doing their best Iron Man impersonation with armor that morphs over them mid-battle? Is that the new trait activation? How important is this new customization system? Will it ruin competitive play? These are the questions I had going into my hands-on, but after over two hours of matches, that trepidation has turned to a sort of subdued enjoyment. Despite the wild implications of the reveal trailer, Injustice 2, at this point, feels more or less like the same game with some new characters.

First things first: no, those articulated suits of armor are not an actual part of the gameplay. You do acquire pieces of gear to equip (we'll get to them) but you don't "activate" your armor mid-battle. The trait system from the previous installment is intact, and it works just as it did before, which is to say that it's still a limited use buff or ability that compliments each character's play style. For instance, Atrocitus summons Dex-Starr for a short while, who he can coordinate attacks with to build otherwise impossible combos, and Supergirl has a slowly recharging battery of multi-directional eye blasts she can use to zone and pick away at her opponents.

Lego Dimensions Meets Mario Kart Battle Mode in New Multiplayer Battle Arenas

As I flew down from the sky as Ethan Hunt onto the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch for a game of Capture the Flag, I instantly knew something special would ensue. I just didn't expect to be thinking of Mario Kart the whole time.

Lego games have always allowed players to collaborate in their quest to smash bricks and collect studs. Now, Lego Dimensions is introducing a competitive local multiplayer mode that scratches the same itch as the best iterations of Mario Kart’s Battle Mode.

While Lego Dimensions’ second year of content will integrate a number of new franchises into the game’s fold, this next major wave will also mark the introduction of Battle Arenas, which will facilitate several gameplay variants, like objective-based challenges. 21 arenas will come to the game in all, but with the inclusion of Capture the Flag, Lego Dimensions—and one arena in particular—evokes the fast and furious fun of days popping balloons in Mario Kart combined with Dimensions' delightful franchise-blending touch.

Why Destiny's Rise of Iron Won't Come to Last Gen Consoles

Earlier this month we learned that the upcoming Destiny expansion Rise of Iron will not come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. After a chat with Game Director Christopher Barrett at E3, we now know why.

"When we're making a game as big as Destiny is, a majority of our players are on the current gen consoles," Barrett told IGN. "I think it's over 90% at this point, and we've reached a point where if we wanted to put new stuff in the game, and we wanted to support the legacy consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3), we'd have to start taking stuff out, and we really don't want to do that. We don't want to make those kinds of choices, so I think it's a logical progression."

Xbox Event USB Stick Contains 'Bulletstorm Remaster' Images

Microsoft has been handing out USB drives to press at E3, and mysteriously, they have a folder named "Bulletstorm Remaster" containing a handful of images.

There are three screenshots and one "hero image" on the drive, which you can check out in the gallery below.

There hasn't been any word about a Bulletstorm remaster so far at E3, but we'll be sure to update you if any official information comes.

Bulletstorm came out in 2011, and mixed things up with its weighty shooting and combo system. Its developer is working on a brand new AAA shooter which will be released in 2017.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Demo Launches

Attention Star Wars fans, there's been an awakening. Sony announced at its 2016 E3 press conference that the demo for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is available now. The new game will be released on June 28th.

The playable demo is currently available to download in the PlayStation store for PS4.

The description for the demo reads: "Be the first to play LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Download the demo today to join Rey, Finn, and BB-8 as they evade the villainous First Order. Engage in Blaster Battles with Stormtroopers, use Multi-Builds to race through Niima Outpost, and dogfight with TIE Fighters through derelict Imperial Star Destroyers in the Millennium Falcon before escaping Jakku!"

ReCore's Pre-Order Bonus is Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts

Budding ReCore owners will get an Xbox One-compatible download code for 360 game, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts in return for a pre-order. Because robots? Or rebuilding things? Who knows.

Confirmed by the ReCore website FAQ, your pre-order will also set you back a relatively inexpensive $40. That is unless you invest in the Limited Collector's Edition, which ups the price to $179.99 in return for statues of the game's two main characters.

ReCore got a confirmed release date of September 13 during Microsoft's E3 press conference.

Just Dance 2017 Announced

Ubisoft's annual dance franchise is returning this year with Just Dance 2017, Ubisoft announced at its E3 press conference today. It will be coming to all platforms, including the Nintendo NX.

The demo at the start of the show began with Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now."

Just Dance 2016 released last October and introduced the Showtime mode, which allows players to create their own music videos in the game.

This makes Just Dance 2017 one of the first titles confirmed for Nintendo's new console after the new Legend of Zelda game. Square Enix's Dragon Quest 10 and Dragon Quest 11 are also under consideration for release on the NX.

Bethesda Teases Wolfenstein: New Colossus

At the beginning of tonight's Bethesda E3 showcase, shortly before the reveal of Quake Champions, Bethesda offered a tease that could point to the next Wolfenstein DLC or full game.

As seen in the screenshot above, the "boot-up sequence" at the beginning of the conference shows, among other games, "New Order" (referencing Wolfenstein: The New Order from 2014), "Old Blood" (referencing the Wolfenstein: The Old Blood standalone expansion released in May 2015), and "New Colossus," with the release date blocked out.

FIFA 17 Has a Single-Player Campaign

During its EA Play conference today, EA showed off The Journey, the new single-player campaign in FIFA 17.

In The Journey, you’ll play as Alex Hunter, an up-and-coming rookie, as he moves along his career. EA also showed off graphics utilizing the Frostbite engine, which FIFA has switched to.

FIFA 17 launches in North America on September 27 and internationally on September 29. It will be available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Why Gaming Conventions Need Safe, Quiet Spaces

We all have moments when we’re vulnerable, in pain, or just need to take a step away from the overstimulation that can come with life, including the things we love: family, friends, school, work, and even video games.

Whether you’re suffering from mild amounts of stress or a mental illness slightly more debilitating, everyone deserves to have their thoughts and feelings heard. So begins the mission of Take This, a non-profit charity dedicated to spreading awareness of mental health issues — specifically in the gaming community.

“As with every community, we have strong alliances with one another, but we have discovered that even in our unique group, we still have a really hard time asking for help,” Shannon Gerritzen, co-Executive Director of Take This, tells IGN. "Take This wants to knock those walls down.”

Report: Actor Lists Devil May Cry 5 on Resume

According to an actor’s resume, Devil May Cry 5 may be happening.

According to ShackNews, actor Nils Hognestad posted the role to his resume page, although it has since been deleted.

The Norwegian actor, who has starred in Lake Placid 3, Fighting Free, and had a minor role in Once Upon a Time, listed the role, indicating he is playing the lead character. Whether that means Dante or someone else isn’t immediately clear. It’s also worth mentioning, there’s no mention of the role on Hognestad’s IMDB either. So pinch of salt until E3 and all that.

Sony Takes Top Spot for Game and Console Sales for May

Sony's console again holds the top spot in sales for the month, according to numbers released by the NPD Group. PlayStation 4 was the top selling console for April 2016, and the month previous, as well.

PS4 exclusive Uncharted 4 was the best-selling game for the month.

Sony has managed to beat out its competitors most months since the PS4 launched, with very, very few exceptions. Back in October, Halo 5 drove sales of Microsoft's Xbox One to the top of sales for the month, but generally speaking, Sony has dominated sales numbers in the US.

Here's What Rise of Iron Means For Last-Gen Destiny Players

With the announcement of Destiny's upcoming expansion, Rise of Iron, Bungie revealed the new content would only be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players. In a new post on Bungie's official website, the studio details what that means for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players.

The PS3 and 360 will now be treated as "legacy consoles," meaning that any Destiny players wanting to play new content going forward will have to upgrade to the next generation of consoles. Bungie will split the worlds of each generation beginning in August.

New Sonic Comic Pays Tribute to Sega Genesis Era

With 2016 being the 25th anniversary of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game, fans can expect a lot of major new Sonic projects across various forms of media (including today's announcement that Sonic will be joining the growing lineup of characters in Lego Dimensions). But comic book fans also have a lot to look forward to. This July, Archie Comics will be publishing a new one-shot special called Sonic: Mega Drive #1. It's no coincidence that this issue is named after the international version of the Sega Genesis console, as it pays homage to that classic, 16-bit era and features a story set after the events of Sonic & Knuckles.

The Goonies, Sonic, E.T. & More Coming to LEGO Dimensions

16 new entertainment properties are coming to LEGO Dimensions in its next expansion, including The Goonies, E.T., Sonic the Hedgehog, Gremlins and Beetlejuice.

The Ghostbusters Story Pack, Adventure Time and Mission: Impossible Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and The A-Team Fun Pack will be available from September 27, 2016, while additional packs based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The LEGO Batman Movie, The Goonies, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go!, LEGO City Undercover, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, Gremlins, Beetlejuice and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial will be released "in product waves stretching into summer of next year."

All the new packs will work with the existing LEGO Dimensions toy pad.

Activision Announces Call of Duty XP Fan Event

Activision will reveal its Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warface Remastered multiplayer modes at the Call of Duty XP fan event in September—and not at E3 next week.

Fans attending the September 2–4 event in Los Angeles, California will be the first to go hands on with both multiplayer modes, as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops III's next downloadable content. The publisher will also have its Call of Duty VR experience on site, as well as live-action events like Nuketown paintball and Zombies laser tag.

Dedicated Call of Duty panels featuring developers Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games will also happen throughout the event. Activision is planning an onsite Call of Duty armory and franchise museum for fans to explore.

The Walking Dead Season 3 Reveal Coming This Sunday

The next chapter in Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series is coming later this year, but those itching for a sneak peek at season 3 can get their first look this Sunday—exclusively on IGN.

Tune in to IGN on Sunday, June 12 at 3 pm PT / 6 pm ET to see the unveiling of season 3 of Telltale's acclaimed Walking Dead series. While details are scarce until that reveal, Telltale promises the third season will be both a "bold new entry point" for the series in addition to being "a continuation of the saga that began with Lee and Clementine" in the game's first season.

Telltale Teases Batman Game for E3 2016

Batman: A Telltale Game Series will make its debut very soon, as the studio has announced its upcoming adventure series will premiere this summer.

In a post on Twitter, Telltale Head of Creative Communications Job Stauffer announced the release window for its Batman series and narrowed down the launch window for the third season of The Walking Dead, which will debut this fall.

Rise of Iron Trademarked by Bungie

A trademark filing for Rise of Iron has surfaced, seemingly confirming Bungie's next Destiny expansion.

The application—which was filed by Bungie on May 31—is for use in video game software, among other multimedia categories. The full listing is available on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.

Bungie has not confirmed the expansion, despite Rise of Iron's title art having leaked in May. The DLC is expected to be "fallen-themed," and "larger than both year one DLC packs." This information is in line with Activision's plans to release a "large new expansion" for Destiny in 2016.

Bungie Announces Destiny Reveal Stream for Next Week

Bungie announced it plans to reveal what's next for Destiny during a livestream next week.

The livestream—which will air on Thursday, June 9 at 10 am PT on Bungie's Twitch channel—will give players a "first glimpse" into what's coming "later on this year." Players will learn of the "next threat" Guardians will face. A "deeper dive" with the Destiny development team will follow.

Earlier in May, marketing materials for Destiny's next expansion, reportedly called Rise of Iron, were leaked to Reddit. Kotaku sources confirmed the authenticity of the leak, saying the DLC will likely include a fallen-themed raid and be "larger than both year-one DLC packs."

NBA 2K17 Cover Star, Release Date Announced

Indiana Pacers All-Star shooting guard Paul George will grace the cover of NBA 2K17 Standard Edition, 2K announced.

George previously served as the cover star of the MyNBA2K16 companion app, and as a guest commentator during the NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals tournament. He'll also appear as the cover athlete for NBA 2K Online in China.

Minecraft Has Sold Over 100 Million Copies

Minecraft has sold a total of 106,859,714 copies across PC, console, and mobile platforms to date, averaging about 53,000 sales per day since the start of 2016.

These stats, and more, have been revealed in a new Minecraft infographic, which you can check out below.

GTA Online Needs to 'Rest', Says Take-Two CEO

Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two has said GTA Online was never intended as a permanent fixture, and that the franchise needs to “rest.”

As reported by GameSpot, speaking at the Cowen and Company Technology, Media & Telecom Conference, CEO Strauss Zelnick explained Take-Two never intended for GTA Online to become a permanent entity.

"Not only was it not our intention that GTA Online was permanent, but it's important that it not be permanent,” says Zelnick. "We have to rest the franchise at some point."

Previously, Zelnick used the term “permanent” when talking about the likes of Red Dead Redemption, Evolve, and the GTA series, but never individual online modes.

Skylanders Imaginators Announced

Activision has announced a new entry in its Toys-to-Life franchise, Skylanders Imaginators.

Coming October 16 in the US, Skylanders Imaginators will allow you to create your own Skylanders for the first time in an all-new story in the universe, brought to you by the original Skylanders creative team Toys for Bob.

Skylanders Imaginators will support the toys from all previous games, while the eponymous 'Imaginators' - characters you can build from scratch - can be created and transported into the game anytime and anywhere through a new toy type, the 'Creation Crystal'.

'Guest stars' will also be introduced in Skylander Imaginators called "Senseis", which include 20 new characters and 11 former villains. Each Sensei is a master of one of 10 Battle Classes such as Knight, Sorcerer, Brawler, and have the ability to launch Sky Chi – "the ultimate Battle Class super move".
