Before developing Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II for LucasArts, Obsidian Entertainment wanted to make an action-RPG set in the Star Wars universe that used the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance engine.
On the latest episode of our monthly interview show IGN Unfiltered, Obsidian CEO Fergus Urquhart said that after having worked with Snowblind Studios on the dungeon-crawling action-RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, and then developing the sequel internally, the studio was interested in making a similar style game set in the Star Wars universe.
"There hadn't been a game like that, like an action, Star Wars action-RPG," Urquhart said. As such, Obsidian's first pitch to LucasArts was: "What about using the Dark Alliance engine and making a Star Wars action-RPG?"
