Platinum Games Developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game

Independent Japanese developer Platinum Games (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the Bayonetta series) is readying a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, according to a new entry in the Australian Classification Board’s ratings database.

Based on the limited information contained in the entry the game is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan and the publisher is noted as Activision. The game is rated M due to moderate impact violence. The M category in Australia is not a legally restricted category but is applied to games and films recommended for persons 15 and over.

WB Games Montreal Hiring for Two New DC Universe Games

Warner Bros. Games Montreal has two new DC Comics universe titles on the docket—and they’re hiring for both.

The studio who developed Batman: Arkham Origins posted an official call for applicants on its website, announcing the development of two AAA projects "focused on expanding the DC Comics universe in the interactive space." The jobs available range from software developers and programmers to artists and designers.

We reported in June on rumors of a new open-world game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Still, no word yet on what the games might actually be. Another Batman game? Superman? Perhaps a tie-in with the Suicide Squad movie? Your guess is as good as ours.

Canceled First-Person Avengers Game Footage Surfaces

Several years ago, THQ was working a big-budget superhero game tied to Marvel's The Avengers movie. It was canceled in the wake of THQ Australia's closing, and now new footage of the title has surfaced.

Check out the video below, courtesy of Unseen 64 and DidYouKnowGaming (via VG247) , which not only contains gameplay footage, but also assets and details on the game's development.

The title was in development for both both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at Studio Australia, with Blue Tongue joining the project to help with a PC version. There were also apparently plans to port the game to Wii U a bit later on in development.

How to Unlock Metal Gear Solid 5's Nuclear Disarmament Secret

Konami has confirmed how to unlock the secret nuclear disarmament ending for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Although the secret ending apparently leaked back in September (you can see the video on IGN's Metal Gear Solid V Easter Egg page), Konami has now released the instructions on how to unlock the event for real, and it's not going to be easy.

One of the original theories was true. All nuclear weapons at the FOBs of everyone in your console's region have to be dismantled. The full instructions are as follows:

Destiny: The Taken King Adds 'Harder' Mode

Bungie is introducing an even "harder" mode to Destiny: The Taken King's King's Fall raid. Though the company has yet to release much of the details, it did post a preview on its official blog.

Lead raid designer Gavin Irby announced the game's newest feature—challenge modes. In challenge mode, a King's Fall boss will issue players a weekly challenge. You can take on the challenges in both normal and hard modes, and, as Irby notes, rewards will match the chosen difficulty level.

Players can't just go in with any strategy, however. Bungie reminds us that "each boss's challenge requires that you defeat them in a very specific manner." We'll find out what the means when the challenges are released.

Discovering Minecraft in 2015

Minecraft's incredible popularity is well documented, and utterly fascinating. This primitive-looking but hugely versatile experience is the best-selling PC game in history, as well as one of the best-selling games of all time. It has sold over 70 million copies between various platforms and now has its own convention.

This is no small feat: Mojang is holding onto something extraordinary to say the least. Yet for some reason or another, Minecraft had always eluded me. Rarely a PC gamer, I initially watched Markus "Notch" Persson's baby skyrocket from afar, a cultural phenomenon unlike anything I had ever seen.

So when Minecraft eventually made its way to PS4, with its popularity showing no signs of dropping, curiosity eventually got the better of me. Running out of things to play and a sale appearing on PSN made it seem like fate, and I decided one afternoon in July to finally see what all the block-filled fuss was about. Initially I started up Minecraft simply to occupy vacant gaming time between releases, what it turned into however, proved to be much more than a basic time-filler.

Thief, Sacred 3 Headline November's Games With Gold

Microsoft has revealed its lineup of free games coming to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in December.

All month long, Games with Gold will be offering Xbox One owners The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing free of charge. Additionally, Square Enix's Thief will be available from December 16 to January 15 at no cost.

Xbox Wire has also revealed the lineup Xbox 360 games that are being featured in the promotion, with Castlestorm going free from December 1 to December 15. At that point it will be replaced by Sacred 3, which will be free until the end of the month. As an extra holiday bonus, Microsoft is also offering Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising as a free download from December 16 to December 31.

Activision Drops 34 New Tracks in Guitar Hero Live

Activision is adding a bunch of new tracks to Guitar Hero Live this Wednesday, November 25.

In addition to 28 new playable tracks coming to GHTV's on-demand list, six new tracks will be added to GHTV's Premium Shows, bringing Guitar Hero Live's track total to 300. Here's the list of what's coming.

Rockstar Introduces New GTA Online Mode, Running Back

Grand Theft Auto Online will have a new permanent Adversary mode, Running Back, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One from today.

"In the spirit and tradition of American Football this Thanksgiving week, we present a new mode entitled Running Back," states the latest post on the Rockstar NewsWire.

The new mode will be available across three locations: Raton Canyon Bridge, La Mesa Bridge, and Zancudo Tunnel.

"Two teams (a total of 4-8 players) square off from opposing sides of a roadway," adds Rockstar. "The elusive Runner, behind the wheel of a Benefactor Panto, must go the distance and get across the end zone line at the far end of the highway with the help of their offensive teammates in BF Biftas. Meanwhile, their defensive-minded opponents (also in Biftas) must ruthlessly block, crash and pummel their way to try to stop them."

Bungie Details Destiny's Refer-a-Friend Rewards

Bungie has detailed what rewards will be available for Destiny players who Refer-a-Friend.

Providing your buddy has Destiny and the The Taken King expansion pack on the same platform as you, a selection of goodies will be yours, including the Link of Friendship XP bonus buffs, a new EV-34 Vector Infinite Sparrow, and your choice of three Elemental Kinblades Legendary Swords.

You'll also get access to the bonus The Hunt for Loot quest, the new Infinite Link shader, Sign of the Infinite emblem, and two new emotes - the Duo Dance and High Five.

Activision Blizzard recently revealed Destiny currently has more than 25 million registered users, compared with 20 million in May and 16 million in February.

A Free-To-Play PES 2016 Could Be Coming

Konami may be looking to release a free-to-play version of PES 2016.

The Australian Classification Board has "Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Free To Play" listed on its website (thanks MCV). The full paid version of PES 2016 came out in September.

There are no announced platforms or a release date for the potential F2P soccer game yet, but we've reached out to Konami and will update this article if we hear back.

PvZ: Garden Warfare Passes 8 Million Players

PopCap announced today that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare has crossed eight million players since launch.

According to PopCap, 1.4 billion games have been played since Garden Warfare’s February 2014 release, which averages out to more than 1,600 matches per minute. In that time, seven billion zombies have reportedly been destroyed.

Xbox One Elite Console Review

Aiming to be the Rolls Royce of Xbox Ones in a sea of Ford and Chevy bundles and deals, the Xbox One Elite Console offers a premium alternative at a premium $499 price: a 1TB Xbox One – complete with a solid state hybrid drive (SSHD) – paired with Microsoft’s upscale Elite controller. But thanks mostly to optimizations and efficiencies gained from the New Xbox One Experience dashboard, the Elite’s minimal hardware benefits aren’t enough to make it an easy recommendation.

Microsoft definitely earns points for presentation when you open the Elite’s box. The beautiful, brilliant Elite controller sits nestled in a cardboard recess on the right side, with the high-performance gamepad’s Xbox nexus-branded neoprene case just below it. A cardboard-sheathed compartment containing the power brick, power and HDMI cables, Xbox Live chat headset, and braided 8-foot USB cable for the controller is on the left half of the tray. The console, meanwhile, sits lovingly wrapped in a black sheath underneath, like a birthday present.

Take-Two Explains Why GTA Isn't a Yearly Thing

Take-Two Interactive has revealed why its popular franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne, and Red Dead Redemption don't see new installments every year, highlighting the important of generating anticipation and consumer demand.

"The market asks us, 'Why don’t you annualize your titles?'" Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said at the MKM Partners Investor Day (via Gamespot). "We think with the non-sports titles, we are better served to create anticipation and demand. On the one hand to rest the title, and on the other hand to have the highest quality in the market, which takes time. You can’t do that annually."

Telltale Confirms Season 2 of Game of Thrones

Telltale Games has confirmed there will be a second season to its Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series game.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Telltale CEO Kevin Bruner said choices made in the first season of the game will carry over to the second season, something he says Telltale has been planning "all along."

"I really shouldn't be revealing more than that," Bruner added.

Bruner likened the development process of development to working on a television program, saying Telltale's games spend much of their pre-production time as ideas on whiteboards and sticky-notes. As for how along in the process the second season is, Bruner said Telltale can't say "exactly how far along," it is, but he did say "there's never a shortage of sticky notes on the walls" around the Telltale studio.

Kudo Departs Xbox Division, Joins Windows Apps Studio

Kudo Tsunoda, who formerly served as creative director on Kinect, is leaving Microsoft's Xbox division to head up the company's Windows Apps Studio as president.

This new role has Tsunoda overseeing the development of new apps across Microsoft's wide array of services and products, including Windows 10, HoloLens, Xbox and Surface.

"On the heels of the successful release of the November update for Windows 10 and the New Xbox One Experience, Microsoft added two new members to the Windows and Devices Group Leadership Team," a Microsoft rep told GameSpot.

Halo 5: See All 4 New Big Team Battle Maps

Earlier this week, Halo 5: Guardians developer 343 Industries released a free update to the game that added the series' classic Big Team Battle mode to the latest installment of the franchise. New Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 3 Trailer Reveals Release Date

Minecraft: Story Mode's third episode is dropping Tuesday November 24th, and Telltale's given us a new trailer to sink our teeth into.

Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 3 - The Last Place You Look will follow Jesse and crew as they try to locate Soren, the final member of the Order of the Stone. Along the way "they'll see sights and wonders beyond belief, including the horrors lurking beneath the starless sky of The End", says Telltale.

Opionion: FPS Campaigns Are Dying, and That’s Awful

Star Wars Battlefront. Rainbow Six Siege. Evolve. Titanfall. Besides being some of this generation’s highest-profile first-person shooters, they also all share another, more worrying trait: a complete and total lack of a narrative-driven single-player campaign.

This is not a promising trend, and it’s also a huge missed opportunity.

I’d have loved to have played a 6-8–hour Titanfall campaign that showed off all of the game’s phenomenal wall-running and Titan-summoning mechanics in the most eye-popping ways, crafted by the same core team that brought us the Hall of Fame-worthy Call of Duty 4 campaign. Besides, for some of us, not having the context of a fleshed-out, meaningful game universe can render the most mechanically solid games meaningless. I want a narrative-driven experience built around the game mechanics provided, without having to connect online and, for good or bad, deal with other people. Like a good book.

Similar to Telltale’s other games, Minecraft: Story Mode features narrative-heavy gameplay, with an emphasis on choice-based actions to progress the story. Minecraft: Story Mode has disappointed fans with the lack of Minecraft’s signature unrestricted freedom. Perhaps this will be where Telltale Games and Mojang address this concern.

First Look at Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 3 Coming Tomorrow

Telltale Games announced on Twitter this morning that a first look at Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 3: The Last Place You Look will be released on Thursday, November 19. This installment will be the third in a series of five, all of which will be available through the Playstation Network and the Xbox Games store, as well as on PC and Mac.

Come tomorrow, we’ll take a look into what Jesse and crew will be getting themselves into on their heroic journey through the Overworld. Their goal is straightforward—they must reunite the Order of the Stone to save the world from total destruction.

New Premium Tracks Coming to Guitar Hero Live

A bunch of premium content is now available to access in Guitar Hero Live.

Taking advantage of the ability to record live shows and then throw them into the game in "a matter of weeks," Activision has dropped new performances from Rival Sons, the "rising rock band from Southern California" that opened the official Guitar Hero Live launch party in LA. Tracks from the band, playable in GHTV, are as follows:

·         Keep On Swinging (Live)

·         Pressure and Time (Live)

·         Electric Man (Live)

Acti has promised to add more performances from the launch party, including tracks from Weezer and Grizfolk, later on in the year.

Ubisoft Celebrates 20 Years of Rayman with Massive Infographic

Ubisoft has released a massive infographic to mark 20 years of Rayman. The colorful infographic details the Rayman franchise—from Rayman, the first game in the series, to Rayman Adventures, Ubisoft’s mobile game, which is available for download now on Apple TV. Rayman Adventures comes to iOS and Android on December 3rd.

Here's What Fallout 3 Could Have Been

Before it found a home at Bethesda, Fallout 3 was under the guiding hand of Interplay, and it was destined to be a very, very different game.

At a recent presentation at NYU Game Center's Practice 2015 conference (as reported by Polygon), designer Chris Avellone unveiled some new details on Interplay's Fallout 3, then code-named Fallout 3: Van Buren.

Van Buren was originally conceived as a cinematic, turn-based game, and  originally tested out as a pen-and-paper RPG. During the presentation, Avellone revealed that Van Buren's companions would have been capable of independent decision-making, which would "affect the other inhabitants of the in-game world". He also revealed that your protagonist would be an accused criminal, travelling with a "group" of companions.

Darth Vader in Video Games: A Visual History

Darth Vader is a bad dude, and his badness is almost unmatched. He personally gave the order to blow up an entire planet, and even before he broke bad, he was a constant thorn in the side of his master Obi-Wan and the entire Jedi council. Iron Banner to Return in Next Destiny Update

The Iron Banner is returning to Destiny next week in an all-new update.

Among the changes in the forthcoming update are tweaks to the rewards gained and the switch to Clash. According to developer Bungie's blog, this is the first time the Iron Banner has used Clash.

Senior Designer Derek Carroll took to the blog to explain what players can anticipate as part of the switch.

"I’d expect to see a bit less Super ability usage, and a lot more shooting across the board, but good teams will work together and hold territory even without the scoring incentives that Control provided," he said.

Bungie Teases Refer-a-Friend Rewards for Destiny Players

Bungie has revealed that it will be offering rewards to players who refer their friends to its sci-fi shooter, Destiny.

In its latest weekly update, community manager Cozmo writes: "After this update is deployed, some of the more tech savvy among you will be able to dig up some details for a new initiative we have planned to arrive just in time for the holiday season. We’re planning something new to recognize and reward the Sherpas among you. We are calling it Refer-a-Friend."

"Maybe you have a friend who will be getting Destiny as a gift this season. Perhaps their gift-giver will even be picking it up for them at a holiday sale coming to a store near you. October Saw Xbox Oneat the Top of Console Sales

The top selling console for October was Xbox One the NPD Group reported today.

According to a statement from Microsoft, the Xbox One saw 81 percent growth compared to October 2014. Staying on message, it said "the strength of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history," including October's top-selling game Halo 5: Guardians, helped drive "record Xbox Live" usage for the month, as well as put the console above its competitors.

Halo 5 did indeed top the charts for October, beating out multiplatform NBA 2K16 for the month. Microsoft expects its top-spot to trend forward, pointing out the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider, the high consumer demand for the Xbox Elite controller, and "the New Xbox One Experience including backward compatibility" as future drivers of hardware sales.

The Best Selling Games for October Announced

The top selling game for the month of October was Halo 5: Guardians, according to numbers published today by the NPD Group.

Directly behind Halo 5 was NBA 2K16, which was knocked out of the number one spot it grabbed during its debut month. The big news is that while NBA 2K16 is sold on all consoles, Halo 5: Guardians is an Xbox One exclusive. Assassin's Creed Syndicate came in third place for the month.

Yoshi's Woolly World broke into the top 10 with a respectable showing at 8th place on the chart, while Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for PS4 charted afterall, coming in 9th.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Xbox 360 and PS3 Review

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is a letdown, and not just because it doesn’t have a single-player or co-op campaign.

Its competitive multiplayer and co-op Zombies modes get the job done with tons of cool new powers, weapons, and secrets to unlock, but it can't measure up to the high performance and visual standards set even by previous Call of Duty games on these systems.

Again, the campaign is missing entirely, so make sure you don’t buy it expecting to play the solo or co-op story found in the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC versions. This wouldn't have been an issue if the campaign was forgettable or bad, but it wasn't. Despite a tough-to-follow story and some weak characters, Black Ops 3 mixed fun new powers into the shooter formula with terrific results.

Halo 5 Concept Art Sampling Revealed

Before a pixel is ever put to a screen, a game goes through a paper design. This includes all the game's art. And now that Halo 5: Guardians has been released, developer 343 Industries has kindly given us a look at some of the concept art used to inspire and set the visual tone for Master Chief's latest adventure, complete with notes from 343's artists.

343: Locke went through several iterations to get to the final look. The goal with Locke was to make him feel like a jet fighter, very aerodynamic and stealth oriented. His armor was meant to feel like a prototype, much of it is left as unpainted metal, with part and manufacturing numbers visible.

Black Ops 3 is the Biggest Entertainment Launch of 2015

Activision Blizzard has announced Call of Duty: Black Ops III pulled in $550 million in its first three days on sale, making it the biggest entertainment launch of 2015.

The game beat out stiff competition from movies, music and books to haul in some serious dollar and bring in almost double the digital sales of last year's Advance Warfare, while retail sales improved "significantly" on both Advanced Warfare and Ghosts in 2013.

Additionally, the publisher also crowed that Call of Duty: Black Ops III has the highest player engagement of any entry in the franchise ever, with more hours per player racked up so far than with any other COD title.

From that information, it certainly sounds like the Call of Duty franchise is back on track... or is it? Black Ops II, which launched back in 2012, made over $500 million in its first day in the US alone. Additionally, both Advanced Warfare and Ghosts launched when the PS4 and Xbox One were much younger consoles with smaller install bases - higher sales for Black Ops III shouldn't be a huge shock.

Xbox One's Free Fallout 3 Promotion has an Expiration Date

If you're yet to cash in your cheque and claim the free copy of Fallout 3 that comes when pre-ordering the latest installment in the franchise on Xbox One, you may want to get your skates on.

During this year's E3, Bethesda's Todd Howard announced copies of Fallout 4 on Xbox One would include Fallout 3 - it was later revealed this would be a pre-order bonus.

Now, Gamespot has noticed that Fallout 4’s store page on Xbox One reveals the deal expires on February 8, 2016. While it's unlikely to affect many of you, best to redeem your code sooner rather than later so you don't forget.

I am, after all, likening a series he’s been a part of for over a decade to a band Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney once singled out as the precise reason rock ’n roll is dying.

While it seems clear to me that neither of us are Nickelback fans, Vonderhaar hears me out. Strangely enough Nickelback and Call of Duty are bizarrely alike. Both attract tsunamis of criticism and hostility, and yet both remain massively popular by any measure. It has to be a weird pill to swallow for both parties. I ask Vonderhaar if this is a hard thing to reconcile.

The full Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list includes bonafide hits like Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed 2, and Fallout 3, but it also includes dozens more games that likely won't get as much love.

We picked out five that you shouldn't forget to play.

Condemned was one of the best launch games on the Xbox 360, with gristly melee combat, genuine scares, and an interesting story about a cop framed for murder. It's not a long campaign and the game only has one mode, which makes it that much easier to experience this great but mostly forgotten survival horror adventure.

Watch Every Fallout Game's Debut Trailer

There is nothing quite like exploring the post-apocalyptic wasteland in the Fallout series. And with each new installment, we get to venture out across new regions of the United States in the dystopian, alternate future.

That leads to anticipation and hype for a new Fallout game. While we know the SPECIAL system and Power Armor are givens, there is always speculation about the next place we get to wander through. As such, the reveal trailer for Fallout becomes something truly special.

For example, seeing the Washington Monument appear in the background of the Fallout 3 teaser trailer was so exciting. We knew Washington, D.C., would soon be our post-apocalyptic playground, but we didn't know where else and how much of the national capital we would actually see.

Diablo 3 Patch Has New Zone, New Legendaries, and More

Details for the upcoming Diablo III patch have been outlined by Blizzard, and include a whole new area called Greyhollow Island. In addition to the new area, the Eternal Woods and Royal Quarters have been expanded "to give additional variety to bounties."

Also coming with the patch are revamped set items, "an entirely new set of challenges in the form of Set Dungeons," a new feature called Empowered Rifts, 40 new Legendary powers, and more. A revised buff UI and more space to store loot will also be part of the 2.4.0 patch.

Players on PC will be getting season journey revisions including the omission of new Seasonal Legendaries starting with Season 5. "Instead, all Legendary items headed to Patch 2.4.0," will be made immediately available to players regardless of their season participation. A new season rebirth will allow players to take a non-seasonal hero, reduce them to level 1, and strip all their gear. "Any gear removed from a hero in this way is automatically mailed to you in the non-season," Blizzard said.

First 104 Xbox One Backward Compatibility Games Announced

Microsoft has revealed the first 104 games that'll make use of the Xbox One's new backwards compatibility functionality when it launches on November 12.

Highlights from the full list include all the Gears of War titles, Assassin's Creed II, Borderlands, Mass Effect and Castle Crashers. Also, if the imminent release of Fallout 4 has you in a post-apocalyptic mood, you'll be pleased to know Fallout 3 also made the cut.

New games will be added to these 104 on a regular basis starting in December. Games confirmed to arrive at some stage in the future include Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops, BioShock, BioShock 2, BioShock Infinite and Skate 3.

Activision Blizzard Announces New Film and TV Division

In an Investor Day presentation leading up to BlizzCon today, Activision Blizzard announced Activision Blizzard Studios, a new division of the company focused on creating original films and TV shows.

The first film project announced for the studio is “a robust cinematic universe” based on the Call of Duty franchise, planned to include “a series of Call of Duty feature films as well as the possibility of television adaptations.” No timing or additional information was revealed. The first release is expected in 2018 or 2019.

An animated Skylanders television series is also in the works, titled Skylanders Academy. The show is currently in production (though no network has been announced yet) with Futurama writer Eric Rogers serving as showrunner. Skylanders Academy will star Justin Long as Spyro, Ashley Tisdale as Stealth Elf, Jonathan Banks as Eruptor, and Norm Macdonald as Glumshanks. Harland Williams and Richard Horvitz will also join the cast.

Who Is More Likely to Own Consoles in America?

A study has revealed interesting statistics on the people who own devices, including gaming consoles and handheld gaming devices.

The statistics, spotted by Tech Insider, come from a study conducted by the Pew Research Centre. According to Pew Research, 40% of American adults polled owned a console such as an Xbox One or a PlayStation 4. Interestingly, women were more likely to own a console than men, with 42% of women surveyed owning at least one console compared to 37% of men.

Tomb Raider's Original Commercials Are so 1990s

There are only arguably only a few characters bigger than Lara Croft in the video game industry. She is an icon, through and through.

With Rise of the Tomb Raider arriving next week, we decided it would be fascinating - and funny - to look back at the commercials for the action-adventure series. The original Tomb Raider's TV spot screams 1990s with its edgy presentation.

In fact, the first three Tomb Raider games stuck to live-action commercials. But in the 2000s, the TV spots put the spotlight on Lara Croft as a CG model. The focus on sex appeal remained, though. It's also worth noting that Modern Family's Sofia Vergara portrayed the heroine in a Visa commercial. It's a weird world, sometimes.

PS4, PC Dominant Platforms for Ubisoft Games

In the press release accompanying its earnings report, Ubisoft gave a breakdown of its games sold by platform, and Sony's PS4 took the top spot with 27% of the share.

The next most popular platform for sales of Ubisoft games was PC at 20%, followed by Xbox One with 12%. The two big last-gen consoles, Xbox 360 and PS3, made up 10%, each, of sales of Ubisoft games.

Wii, not Wii U, saw a 2% share of Ubisoft's total sales, double the number of sales on Wii U, which only managed to claim a 1% share. All categories saw a decline in their share from the same period last year, with the exception of PC and "Other" titles, which increased 5%. "Other" is defined as mobile and "ancillary" platforms.
