Metal Gear Online Adds Quiet, Gets Three New Maps

Konami announced it will premiere three new maps in Metal Gear Online, as well as add Quiet as a "Unique Character." The DLC is set to release in March 2016.

Players can select Unique Characters as a mission setting before starting a game, allowing one random player from each team to spawn as a special character—like Snake or Ocelot, and soon, Quiet—who have increased abilities and unique weapons.

Bungie Talks Destiny Crimson Days Buff, Matchmaking, and More

In this week's Bungie Weekly Update, the Destiny team addressed several of the bigger events happening to the game, including giving some insight into the process that went into creating the upcoming Crimson Days event.

Today between 1 and 3 pm PT, Bungie will be gathering info "on a third round of changes" in Iron Banner's matchmaking.

"This week at Bungie we’re fine-tuning the Crucible," Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague wrote on the game's official blog. According to Dague, Bungie has been gathering data to actively thwart lag issues "setting the table for some good, clean fights." On 2 separate occasions, Bungie rolled out matchmaking tweaks to the matchmaking engine previous to today's third round.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Has Shipped Over 6 Million Copies

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain has shipped over six million copies since its release in September, Konami has announced.

According to the company's latest financial report, the six million figure includes downloads and those shipped to retailers. The figure helped lead a 37.5% increase in revenue for Konami's digital entertainment segment. The increase was also aided by things like strong global sales of Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card games, and the success of its smartphone title Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu, which has been downloaded 19 million times.

The shipped units also factored into Konami's increased total operating profit, which jumped to $143.7 million for the first three fiscal quarters, up from $88.3 million previously. The digital entertainment segment was the highest revenue source for Konami, followed by health and fitness.

Loot Crate Introduces New Service Aimed at Gamers

Loot Crate has unveiled its newest monthly subscription service, Loot Gaming.

Loot Gaming follows the same model as Loot Crate's other subscription services, like Loot Anime and Loot Pets, by delivering a monthly box of collectible swag to subscribers.

For a monthly fee of $25, Loot Gaming crates "will feature a curated selection of items from the best video game brands" including AAA games, indies, new releases, and retro games, according to the company.

Each crate contains between 4 and 6 items, as well as a "game manual style booklet" and an exclusive Loot Gaming pin. All told, Loot Crate says the retail value of the items is around $60 USD. The company also says most items will be manufactured exclusively for Loot Gaming.

Update: Peter Molyneux's Twitter Was Apparently Hacked

It appears Peter Molyneux isn't retiring after all, but instead had his Twitter account hacked.

After tweeting out he was retiring from the game industry and pulling Godus from the Steam store, the apparently-real Peter Molyneux followed up by saying his account had been hacked.

Molyneux wrote the give-away was the previous 3 tweets were bereft of spelling errors. The tweets are, at this time, still on Molyneux's timeline.

Those tweets essentially said Godus was being pulled down, Molyneux was retiring, and his biggest regret was Fable 3. We reported those tweets as though they had been made by the actual Peter Molyneux, which now appears not to be the case.

USC to Start Its Own Games Publishing Program

The University of Southern California is getting into games publishing.

According to a story on Wired the university will launch its own publishing company this spring. The appropriately titled USC Games Publishing will focus on projects by students and faculty for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC and mobile.

The move is thanks in part to USC's often stellar game design program. Projects that started on the campus include Flow (Thatgamecompany's precursor to Flower and Journey), The Unfinished Swan, and The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.

Bungie President Steps Down, Board of Directors Appoints New CEO

Bungie studio President Harold Ryan has stepped down.

Bungie's board of directors announced long-time COO Pete Parsons will now take over as CEO.

Parsons posted the following statement on Bungie's website:

"I want to personally thank Harold for his friendship, passion, hard work, and dedication in helping make Bungie the great company it is today. As a team, we celebrated many victories and weathered many storms.

To the players of Destiny, I want you to know that my number one priority, and Bungie’s, is and always has been to deliver great games that we can all share together. Hand of Fate, Gears 2 Headline February's Games With Gold

Microsoft has revealed its lineup of free games coming to Xbox Live Gold subscribers in February.

According to Major Nelson, four new titles will be available next month via Games With Gold, including Hand of Fate, which will be free all month long for Xbox One owners, as well as Styx: Master of Shadows, which will be available from February 16 to March 15.

On the Xbox 360 front, Sacred Citadel will be free for Gold members from February 1 to February 15, at which point it will be replaced by Gears of War 2, which will be available from February 16 to the end of the month.

Square Enix Holding Life is Strange 'Everyday Hero' Photo Contest

Square Enix is hosting an actual Everyday Hero photography contest, inspired by the events of Life is Strange.

As with the in-game contest, participants are encouraged to submit photos of "ordinary people doing extraordinary things." One winner will receive the Everyday Heroes Scholarship Fund, worth $10,000. The top three finalists will have their photos printed, framed, and signed by the DONTNOD staff, while other participants will have the chance to see their work featured on the Everyday Heroes site.

You'll have until February 16 to submit a photo of someone "that truly captures their heroism and be eligible to win." The contest is only open to legal residents of the United States and Canada—excluding Quebec.

Mighty No 9 Suffers Third Delay

Mighty No. 9 has been delayed.

In a post over on the game’s Kickstarter page, creator Keiji Inafune explains the reason for the latest delay is down to bugs found in the network portion of Mighty No. 9.

“Unfortunately, we have an announcement that will be very disappointing to all of you,” says Inafune.

“In preparation for the February release of Mighty No. 9 we have been working hard with our partners to resolve any network issues and porting work necessary to publish Mighty No. 9 on the various platforms.

“However, the issues relating to the network modes were more critical than expected, and it has become apparent that we will need to delay the game from its February 9 release date. We have been working up until the very last moment to resolve these issues in order to make the February release, but it has become clear that we no longer have enough time to fix the issues and have everything prepared for release.

FGC: Rise of the Fighting Game Community Review

I’ll say this for FGC: Rise of the Fighting Game Community: it’s the cleanest, most well-produced documentary about the the fighting game community yet (and there have been a few). As an introduction to this particular nook of competitive gaming, FGC functions remarkably well, but on other levels it feels a bit safe, and perhaps too indecisive about what it wants its audience to take away from it.

Structurally, FGC is laid out in clear beats, the first of which is an introduction to fighting games for people who might not have even the first idea about them. Director Esteban Martinez has chosen all the right community members to carry this section, and the film as a whole. Guys like Seth Killian and James Chen bring both intimate understanding of fighting game mechanics, and an uncanny gift for communicating them to the uninitiated. Even for a life-long player, their eloquent insights have value, and their interviews provide a strong base for the film to build off of.

David Gaider Leaves BioWare After 17 Years

In a Twitter post today, David Gaider announced his departure from BioWare after 17 years of writing for the studio.

Some news: I must sadly announce that, after 17 years, today is my last day at BioWare. I'll miss my team, and wish everyone here the best.

Gaider had been with BioWare since 1999, where he worked on franchises like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Knights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age.

Beyond story, he wrote some of the most memorable characters in BioWare games, including HK-47, Morrigan, Fenris, Cassandra Pendraghast, Carth Onasi and Alistair.

Destiny's Next Update Is an Ode to Valentine's Day

Bungie has announced that Destiny's next update will focus on "celebrating the rare variety of companionship that can only be found in the heat of battle." The event is called Crimson Days, and starts February 9—just in time for Valentine's Day. Expect the event to be similar in size to Festival of the Lost, Destiny's Halloween event.

Crimson Days brings not only bug fixes and improvements, but a new 2v2 Crucible mode as well—Crimson Doubles. We'll receive more information about the new mode with the next weekly update. For now, Bungie tells us just that it's "born of new gameplay and mechanics that only battle-tested star-crossed lovers will appreciate."

How I Used Solar Power to Play Through Metal Gear Solid 5

I first booted up Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain from a state park in rural Nevada. I finished playing from the northern tip of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, over 3500 miles away. In total, I played 48 hours and 38 minutes of MGS5, while traveling across 11 US states and 3 Canadian provinces.

Throughout this journey, my PlayStation 4 and TV were never once plugged into the grid. Instead, I’ve relied solely on the power of the sun.

Before this adventure, I never thought about gaming with solar power. But when my wife and I decided to leave our jobs, pack up our belongings, and travel North America in a camper for a year, I needed a solution to keep gaming on the road.

Penn Jillette and Randy Pitchford Will Open D.I.C.E.

The 2016 D.I.C.E. summit will open with a presentation by Penn Jillette and Randy Pitchford discussing "Assumptions and Expectations with Interactivity and Magic."

Jillette, who is perhaps one of magic's most recognizable names as one-half of Penn and Teller, will join Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford in a magic trick "that will move from the live theater to virtual reality."

The magic trick will come at the end of a session exploring many of the most crucial aspects of stage magic, including misdirection, disrupting expectations, and "just plain old-fashioned lying."

In addition to the keynote from Jillette and Pitchford, other topics will further explore the "art of engagement." Guitar Hero Live: Fall Out Boy Live Performance Hits GHTV

A fresh batch of Guitar Hero Live tracks are now playable in GHTV, Activision has announced.

The new content includes a playable live performance from Fall Out Boy at KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas 2015, along with three songs from their latest album, American Beauty/American Psycho. Additionally, a new Premium Show dubbed Pop Power! is now available.

Prison Architect Headed to Consoles

Introversion Software's Prison Architect, the prison management and building simulator, is coming to consoles second quarter of this year.

Arriving on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PS4, the console version of Prison Architect also includes a new, console-unique mode called Prison Warden Mode.

Prison Warden Mode offers several pre-built prisons to let console players "get into the action faster." There's also a feature called World of Wardens which gives players the ability to share their prisons online and try to manage the creations of other players.

Developer Double Eleven said it put its own touches on each console version, "creating a unique Prison Architect experience for each platform."

New Ghostbusters Expansion Available for LEGO Dimensions

The third wave of LEGO Dimensions add-ons is available now in North America and Australia (coming January 22 in the UK, February 3 in NZ).

There are five new packs, including a Ghostbusters Level Pack (featuring a Peter Venkman minifigure and a mission based level pitting the Ghostbusters against Gozer in a fight for NY), a DC Comics pack featuring The Joker and Harley Quinn minifigures, a Doctor Who pack featuring a Cyberman minifigure and rebuildable Dalek, a Back to the Future pack that includes Doc Brown, and a LEGO Ninjago pack with Sensei Wu.

New Dark Souls Comic Coming in April

Dark Souls fans have more than just a new video game to look forward to this spring. We're pleased to exclusively reveal that Titan Comics has acquired the rights to this moody, brutally difficult Bandai Namco franchise and will be launching a Dark Souls comic book in April (just in time for Dark Souls III: Scholar of the Sin).

The comic is simply titled "Dark Souls" and will offer new stories set within the universe rather than adapting the stories of the games. It'll be written by George Mann (Doctor Who: The 8th Doctor) and drawn by Alan Quah (Godzilla: Awakening).

Dark Souls #1 will ship with five different covers, including two game covers, a blank sketch cover and two variant covers by artists Joshua Cassara and Marco Turini. You can check out four of these covers below:

Reportedly published by Activision, the game first appeared on the Australian Classification Board's rating database in late November. Early in January, the game's achievements were posted on the Xbox Achievement website. And now, screenshots. Mojang Confirms New Cobalt Release Date

Cobalt is coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Steam on February 2, 2016.

An update from the publisher details what we can expect, including survival mode, speed and combat challenges, online multiplayer and an eight-hour single-player campaign.

"Over the past six years, the development team have laced in a ridiculous amount of features from dancing mini-games, to tameable pets, to conversation trees that can lead to fulfilling relationships with mushroom people," writes Mojang's Owen. Call of Duty Franchise Hits Quarter Billion Units in Lifetime Sales

Activision's Call of Duty has passed 250 million units sold over the lifetime of the franchise.

The latest entry into the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, was not only the top-selling game of December and November, but it also came out on top of the NPD sales chart for the entire 2015 calendar year.

In addition to being the top selling game in the US, Black Ops III also took the title of top-selling game in both units and dollars sold-through "by a wide margin," according to Activision.

Activision senior vice president Rob Kostich thanked the Call of Duty development teams, as well as crediting "the incredible passion from the Call of Duty community."

December's Hottest Selling Games Revealed

The NPD Group has released its list of the top 10 best-selling games for the month of December, with Call of Duty: Black Ops III taking the top spot.

Multi-platform games featured exclusively for the month of December, with not a single console exclusive breaking the top 10. Overall, software sales were down slightly from the same period last year, with new physical game sales coming in at $1.2 billion.

The complete top 10 list is as follows:

The Top Console for December, and 2015, Was PS4

The NPD group released its findings for US console sales for the month of December and once again, PlayStation 4 came out on top. Lifetime sales of the console are now just a fraction under 36 million units.

In a statement, Sony told us it wanted to "thank fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console in December and in 2015."

"More than 5.7 million PS4s and 35 million PS4 games were sold through to consumers worldwide" during the season, Sony said.

In November, the PS4 was the top selling console, with games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops III selling more on Sony's console than Xbox One or PC for the month leading up to the holidays.

There's a time in every app's life where it must step aside to make room for the new generation of apps. For IGN's Xbox 360 app, that time has come.

On January 19, 2016, our Xbox 360 app will be retired. After this date, searching for the app in the Xbox 360 Marketplace will return nada, and users who've previously downloaded the app will, unfortunately, lose the app as part of Microsoft's standard app retirement plan.

Users who want IGN on the TV screen can continue to use IGN apps available on a variety of platforms including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Apple TV.

Ant-Man and Civil War DLC Coming to LEGO Marvel's Avengers

The game isn't out yet, but we've already learned that LEGO Marvel's Avengers will be getting some free DLC.

According to the PS Blog, PlayStation 3 and 4 players will be getting free Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War downloadable content.

We speculated last month that some Civil War DLC might be in the works, but the Ant-Man content is new to us.

Specifically, there will be a Civil War Character Pack which will be available at launch, including nine characters: Captain America, Iron Man (Mark 46 armour), Black Panther, Winter Soldier, Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch, Crossbones, and Agent 13.

Hateful Eight, Pulp Fiction Producer Will Co-Run Activision Blizzard Studios

Activision Blizzard has today confirmed that producer Stacey Sher will be co-president of the newly-formed Activision Blizzard Studios, which the publisher founded late last year to create motion pictures and television properties based on its game franchises. Sher will partner with former Disney executive Nick van Dyk to co-lead the studio.

Sher’s producing credits include The Hateful Eight, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Django Unchained, Garden State, Erin Brockovich, Gattaca, Matilda, Get Shorty, and Pulp Fiction.

“Stacey is a rare talent behind two decades of award-winning television series and films. Her ability to collaborate with the most inspired, talented people in entertainment and her unyielding commitment to creativity make her perfectly suited to Activision Blizzard Studios,” said Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick in a statement. “As custodians of some of the world’s most successful entertainment franchises, we are thoughtfully and creatively expanding our franchises through television and films in a way that will honor the commitment our audiences make to our games.”

PayDay 2 Gets Goat Simulator DLC

In collaboration with Coffee Stain Studios, Overkill Software is introducing a new, bizarre DLC pack. Releasing January 14, PayDay 2 is getting a Goat Simulator heist.

From the description on Overkill's website, you'll play as the PayDay 2 crew on a mission from Vlad to "intercept a truck carrying cocaine." Arriving on scene, the cocaine is nowhere to be found, but there are goats. Lots of goats.

After wrangling said goats, you'll bring them to Vlad's driver, Boris, who'll—uh—extract the drugs.

PayDay 2's Goat Simulator pack is $7 and will include the two-day heist, five achievements, one shotgun, and 16 other items. The DLC releases in the midst of the heist shooter's XP event, giving 25% more XP to all players from January 12 to 21.

Grand Theft Auto Lead Developer Leaves Rockstar

Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North, has left the company.

According to a report by Kotaku, Benzies, who has been on sabbatical since after the launch of Grand Theft Auto nearly a year and a half ago, is officially done working for the company.

Rockstar confirmed Benzies' departure in a statement, saying "Leslie Benzies went on sabbatical on September 1, 2014 and has decided not to return to work for the company."

Benzies was the producer of the Grand Theft Auto series since its 3-D roots with Grand Theft Auto III. Additionally, Benzies had a hand in producing other Rockstar games such as Manhunt 2, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire.

Metal Gear Online PC Beta Goes Live Tomorrow

Konami has announced the Metal Gear Online PC beta will launch tomorrow.

According to a Konami Twitch live stream earlier today, players that own Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can opt in and download the PC beta beginning at 10 pm PT.

In addition to the beta date reveal, the developer previewed some new DLC content coming to Metal Gear Online, including a new unnamed map that bears similarities to Metal Gear Solid V’s Mother Base. A new knife was also shown during the short gameplay session.

Metal Gear Online has been available on consoles since October 6, 2015.

Last month, Konami announced new DLC and a Survival Mode are in the works for the online multiplayer game that is free to anyone who owns Metal Gear Solid V.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Could Still Happen

A sequel to Dragon's Dogma hasn't been ruled out by Capcom.

Speaking to PC Gamer, producer Minae Matsukawa stated that Dragon's Dogma 2 could still happen. "The Dragon’s Dogma development team members often talk about the possibility of a sequel," said Matsukawa. She added that a continuation really depends on fan feedback for the upcoming PC port of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, as that "will increase the chances that we can look into the possibility of continuing the series."

The original Dragon's Dogma released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in May 2012. An expanded version of the RPG was released a year later, titled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and is currently being ported to PC, which releases on January 15. Early last year, Dragon's Dogma Online, a free-to-play MMO was announced, but only for Eastern territories.

Competitive Matchmaking Coming to Battlefield Hardline

Electronic Arts has confirmed that competitive matchmaking is coming Battlefield Hardline.

In a recent blog post, the publisher confirmed that the update will be available for free later this month, along with new "weapons, patches, and - most significantly - a brand new way to play competitively". The two new leagues - a Standard League and a Premium League, which only Premium members will have access to - will feature maps and modes from the base game, as well as those found in DLC.

"It’s called the Competitive Match system, and it opens up the ability to compete in skill-based 5v5 matches, with regularly refreshed seasons, leaderboards, and winners," states EA.

Injustice: Year Five #1 Review

DC didn't necessarily do Injustice: Year Five any favors by relying on the Year Four Annual as a prologue. For one thing, that issue so essential to the reading experience that it really should have been called "Injustice: Year Five #1." For another, Tom Taylor's brief return set a high bar for the final volume that the series is going to be hard-pressed to match. This issue issue is a perfectly enjoyable read, but it doesn't quite continue the momentum of the annual.

The annual set the stage for Year Five as a certain hero's prison break caused hundreds of incarcerated super-criminals to be unleashed on the world again. With years of hard work undone in an instant, Superman and his allies in the Regime have no choice but to round them up their prisoners all over again. And naturally, Batman has his own ideas for how to take advantage of this new chaos. Thus, the central conflict for Year Five is established.

TMNT Mutants in Manhattan Achievements Appear Online

Achievements for an unannounced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan game have been posted online.

Although the game still hasn’t been announced officially, the achievements do give us some idea of what the game actually is. Most notable is one achievement which points to the game having some sort of online component. Oh, and zombies for some reason.

As the achievements contain spoilers, we won’t be posting them here. You can, however, read them on the Xbox Achievements website.

We first learned about the possible Platinum Games-developed Turtles game in November when the game appeared in the Australian Classification Board’s ratings database. Next to no info is known currently, but we’ve reached out to the game’s publisher Activision and will update should we hear anything back, which we probably won’t for now.

Tomb Raider, Halo Sales Pass 1 Million

Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Rise of the Tomb Raider have each sold over one million copies on Xbox One.

The sales feat was announced on Xbox Wire in a post celebrating Xbox's record holiday season. The post added that the number of Xbox One gamers playing Microsoft-published games more than doubled compared to 2014.

While we knew Halo 5 was already the biggest launch in franchise history, Tomb Raider's milestone is impressive considering the Xbox timed-exclusive has yet to hit PlayStation 4 and PC. The PS4 version will release sometime during the 2016 holiday season, while the PC version is coming later this month on January 26.

Jill Valentine Actress Cosplays As Jill Valentine

When it comes to really nailing the look of any character, the devil is in the details. Julia Voth, the actress behind Resident Evil's Jill Valentine, has taken cosplay accuracy to a whole new level.

Voth told us cosplaying as Jill is the number one request she gets from fans. "I think people have always felt connected to her, she's iconic, and there's a reason that after so many years she and the game live on," she said.

In fact, it was a fan who planted the idea in Voth's mind to recreate the character as cosplay. While at an IGN fan convention in Bahrain, Voth said she was leaving to go back to her hotel when a fan she'd met earlier "rushed back to give me a custom made S.T.A.R.S beret." Voth was touched by the gift and posted a picture on her Instagram. From that photo, Voth said "the response was overwhelming."

Zen Studios Announces Star Wars Pinball: The Force Awakens

Zen Studios has announced its next virtual pinball pack is based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars Pinball: The Force Awakens Pack will include two new tables based on the events from the record-breaking movie, according to Zen Studios' blog. The two-pack will be released on January 12 for consoles, PC, and mobile devices.

The first table in the pack, The Force Awakens, features heroes Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron as they battle through various locations from the film through 12 story modes.

The second table, Might of the First Order, focuses on the First Order’s push to dominate the galaxy. It includes a two-level playfield and players can control a Star Destroyer.

Kojima to Be Inducted to Hall of Fame at DICE

Hideo Kojima has been inducted as the 21st member to The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame.

The Metal Gear creator will be presented the 2015 Hall of Fame Award during DICE's 19th Awards ceremony by film director (and spiritual partner-in-crime) Guillermo del Toro.

“Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement,” said AIAS president Martin Rae in a statement. “As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E. Summit stage.”

PC Release Date Announced for Rise of the Tomb Raider

Square Enix has announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to PC on January 28.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was released in November for Xbox One and 360, but we knew that it would be coming to PC in "early 2016." It should also be coming out for PS4 in "Holiday 2016," but we don't have a firm release date for that yet.

“The PC release of Rise of the Tomb Raider continues the positive momentum from our highly successful partnership and collaboration with Microsoft for the launch on Xbox One and Xbox 360,” said Scot Amos, co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics in a statement.

2015: The Triumphant Return of Single Player

In today’s blockbuster video game landscape, the more social your experience is, the better. Connectivity, shareability, retention, evolution: keep players online, all the time. The feeling of being truly ‘alone’ in a video game is fast becoming a thing of the past. After all, single player experiences tend to be finite, and thus increasingly redundant as games strain at the seams to be as eternal as possible.

But in 2015, this prevailing wisdom felt surprisingly absent. Last year, games like Fallout 4, Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Batman: Arkham Knight, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain dominated our attention, and all were focused primarily on the single player experience.

Activision Wants to Make the ESPN of eSports With MLG

Activision Blizzard has officially announced its acquisition of Major League Gaming.

The acquisition of MLG is part of Activision Blizzard's plan to create "the ESPN of eSports," according to CEO Bobby Kotick.

"MLG has an incredibly strong and seasoned team and a thriving community," Kotick said, and he said together, Activision Blizzard and MLG "will create new ways to celebrate players," as well as gamers' commitment to gaming.

On January 1 of this year, rumors surfaced that Activision Blizzard had bought-out Major League Gaming. While that rumor is now confirmed as a truth, rumors MLG CEO Sundance DiGiovanni had left the company are false.

Assassin's Creed 'Empire' Allegedly Launching in 2017

The next Assassin's Creed will launch in 2017, according to Kotaku, whose sources allege that the next game is set in Egypt, leaving 2016 without a mainline AC release. The decision to delay the game -- codenamed 'Empire' -- was apparently made following the launch of Assassin's Creed Unity.

Based on other acquired information, Kotaku speculates that Watch Dogs 2, set in San Francisco and launching this year, will occupy the usual Assassin's Creed release spot.

2016 is still full of various other Assassin's Creeds, including the upcoming film and two side-scrolling action games.

Disney Infinity Now Most Popular Toys-to-Life Series

Catapulted by both anticipation and Star Wars: The Force Awakens' release in December, Disney Infinity Star Wars games and toys have raked in over $200 million in sales this fall.

Thanks to revenue from the Disney Infinity: 3.0 The Force Awakens play set, released on the same day as the film, the franchise has now passed both Skylanders and LEGO Dimensions in the toys-to-life category, according to Fortune. In December, John Vignocchi, VP of production at Disney Interactive Studios, confirmed the game's number-one ranking in the genre.

SuperData Research CEO Joost van Dreunen said the positive reception to The Force Awakens helped sales for Disney Infinity, stating that because Star Wars is one the most recognizable franchises "it allows Disney to demand a higher minimum guarantee as part of the various licensing agreements."

The Big Games, Movies and TV Shows of 2016

With 2015 drawing to a close, the IGN UK podcast team are taking a look ahead to 2016 to preview the games we’ll be playing and the movies and TV shows we’ll be watching.
