Incorporating suspense and terror into a video game commercial isn't easy. That's probably why most ads in general go the comedy route.

But this collection of commercials showcases that scary is possible in a brief amount of time. And unsurprisingly, the classics are represented, from Resident Evil 2 to Silent Hill 2 to Dead Space.

So in celebration of Halloween, check out seven scary game commercials below (even though the first one wasn't intentionally creepy).

So which video got under your skin? I know it wasn't supposed to be scary, but that NES commercial from down under gives me the creeps. I'm also a fan of the Dead Space commercial for putting a new, dark twist on the song, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

Metal Gear Solid 5 Ships 5 Million Copies

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has shipped 5 million units worldwide, Konami announced.

According to its latest financial report detailing the six-month period ending September 30, the publisher noted that this figure includes both digital copies, as well as those shipped to retailers. It also doesn't take into account the month of October, so shipment numbers may now be even higher.

Additionally, Konami revealed that its Digital Entertainment division (i.e. its video games business) was its most profitable segment, amassing 51.7bn yen in revenue.

Thanks to the incredible success of its smartphone title Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu, which has been downloaded a whopping 17 million times, Konami continues to thrive in the mobile market.

EA Infographic Touts World-Leading Stats

Electronic Arts was the top publisher in the west on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One during the company's latest fiscal quarter.

The publisher has released an infographic, providing a look at player engagement across its biggest franchises from July to September. Give it a look below.

Thanks to the successful launches of Madden NFL 16, NHL 16, and FIFA 16, EA's sport-centric franchises saw a year-over-year monthly player increase of 30 percent. Meanwhile, Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic saw a subscriber boost of 33 percent in light of Knights of the Fallen Empire's announcement earlier this year.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Recreated in Destiny

The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' official trailer has sparked reactions, recreations, and re-imaginings alike, and one Destiny player decided to create their own.

YouTube content creator Sam Goodey paired the audio of The Force Awakens' trailer and scenes from Destiny to create a new interpretation of the film footage released earlier this month. Serving as a half-Star Wars mashup, half Destiny commercial, it uses the audio cues of the trailer to portray different scenes. Check it out below.

Boy Convinces Parents to Buy GTA 5 using PowerPoint

In an attempt to convince his parents to buy him Grand Theft Auto V, a 13-year-old boy put together a very professional-looking PowerPoint presentation offering facts, graphs, compromises, and pointed reasons for why he should be able to play Rockstar's open-world game. Check it out for yourself in the slideshow below.

The post appeared on NeoGAF, along with the information that the boy had created three separate slides for the end of his presentation based on what his parent's response to the presentation was. As far as we can tell, he was successful in his campaign.

Karen O Created Tomb Raider's New Theme Song

Karen O, the lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has created the theme song for Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' upcoming action game Rise of the Tomb Raider.

According to Yahoo! News, the track, which is titled "I Shall Rise," will be featured at the end of the game, as well as in upcoming promotional material. Karen O is joined by guitarist David Pajo in the song.

"I think they wanted to bring on the melodrama with this song," Karen O said in a recent interview. "They wanted something emotional with a dramatic build. It's kind of the theme of Lara's creation myth, the moment that defines her becoming an icon. It was really juicy stuff for me. I'm really into making melodramatic songs."

SEGA Pulling Sonic Titles From Wii Virtual Console

Both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are being removed from Wii Virtual Console.

According to Famitsu (via Nintendo Life), SEGA is pulling the pair of Genesis games tomorrow, October 30. Both titles are reportedly being removed form Xbox Live Arcade as well; however, the date for their removal has yet to be revealed.

There's no word on whether this is a worldwide removal or strictly limited to Japan. We've reached out to SEGA for clarification.

GTA Online Halloween Update Bringing Hearses, Masks and Mode

Rockstar has revealed a Halloween update is set to hit GTA Online today, lasting until the end of November 16.

Halloween Surprise will introduce two new vehicles in the shape of the Lurcher Hearse and Franken Stange, while 20 spooky Bobbleheads that can be added to the dash of any customisable Lowrider will also join the party.

The main draw of Halloween is, of course, dressing up and so naturally a wide range of new Monster Masks added, while Halloween Masks will also be set as the default option for all Heists. 30 new Face Paints will also be added.

Finally, a new Adversary Mode called Slasher has been added for up to eight players. The mode sees all lights turned out, and players having to hide and fight to survive in the darkness, while the player chosen as the Slasher stalks everyone with a Shotgun. You'll be able to navigate with a Flashlight if you want, but in doing so will give away your own position. Surviving three minutes sees you net a shotgun to begin your own spree.

2015 Revenue From Esports Valued at $747.5 Million

According to a new report, revenue from eSports reached $747.5 million USD for 2015, a number expected to see a 100% increase by 2018.

The report from Super Data Research shows North America and Europe account for $400 million of global revenue. The lion's share of the revenue generated from eSports comes from sponsorships and advertising, which isn't too surprising. What may catch a few people by surprise is the $55.8 million generated by eSports betting and fantasy sites.

That number beat out revenue generated by the next best-performing category, which is the $53.8 million in prize pools awarded in the various competitive gaming tournaments throughout the year.

Player Beats Crota's End Raid in Destiny Using Rock Band Drum Kit

When they're not beating the King's Fall raid in just over an hour, Destiny players are coming up with other inventive ways to beat missions in Bungie's multiplayer shooter.

Knight Squad, Dirt 3 Headline November's Games With Gold

Microsoft has revealed the upcoming batch of free games that will be available for Xbox Live Gold subscribers in November.

According to Xbox Wire, Pneuma: Breath of Life will be free on Xbox One all month long. Additionally, Knight Squad will be a free download on the platform from November 16 to December 15.

Meanwhile, Codemasters' Xbox 360 racer Dirt 3 will be available during the first half of November, after which it will be replaced by Dungeon Siege III. It's worth noting that from this point onward, all future Xbox 360 titles made available through Games with Gold will be playable on Xbox One, thanks to the upcoming backwards compatibility support, which arrives November 12.

A Complete History of Assassin's Creed's Trailers

Assassin's Creed has a long history of stylish cinemtatic trailers, dating all the way back to 2007's debut of Assassin's Creed 1. Just think, it all started with an eagle and white-hooded man hanging out on a bell tower.

The original Assassin's Creed may have started it all, but the series really took off with the introduction of Ezio Auditore da Firenze in Assassin's Creed II. And just watching the difference in production behind those two trailers is pretty crazy. Needless to say, the Templars don't fare too well throughout the past eight years in the videos.

Minecraft: Story Mode - Episode 2 Release Date Revealed

Telltale Games has stealth released the second episode of its Minecraft: Story Mode.

Episode 2: Assembly Required will be available starting today on all platforms, and coincides with the game's retail disc release. A new trailer giving some insight into what to expect has also been made available:

Minecraft: Story Mode is the first Minecraft game to appear on a Nintendo platform. Telltale Games recently revealed that the upcoming adventure series will be released on Wii U.

5 Star Wars Eras We Need to See in Video Games

With Star Wars Episode VII right around the corner, the galaxy far, far away is on everybody’s mind and predictions are about as common as misquotes from the franchise (seriously, it’s “No. I am your father.” Not, “Luke, I am your father.”) With the Jedi/Sith battle being renewed, it’s inevitably lead to some discussion about video games. And while we’ve had our fair share of winners and losers on the gaming side of Star Wars, a different discussion altogether, sometimes it’s more entertaining to talk about what “could be.”

Rather than leaning on simpler arguments like, “Imagine Knights of the Old Republic, but it takes place during the reign of Vader!” we’re going to instead examine different eras within Star Wars canon. There’s a deep, rich history that spans thousands of years that many fans don’t know about because much of it hasn’t been covered in the movies. Turmoil has existed in the Galaxy since it was created, and some of it is a perfect landscape for the next Star Wars game.

Mojang's Cobalt Has Been Delayed

Cobalt, the upcoming side-scroller from Oxeye Games, has been delayed.

In an announcement on Mojang's website, the Minecraft developer confirmed that Cobalt won't be ready for its original October 30 launch date. Instead the game has been pushed to February of next year.

"We’ve been working on Cobalt for a long time and, though the game is feature complete, our current build is buggier than we’re comfortable with," the studio explained.

"We want every part of Cobalt – the campaign, challenges, and local and online multiplayer to live up to your expectations, no matter which platform you play it on. That’s going to require a bit more development time."

After 18 years at Microsoft and over 14 years working on Xbox, Eric Neustadter has announced he's leaving the company.

Slowing Xbox 360 Sales Offset Microsoft's Gains in Gaming

During a call with its investors today, Microsoft announced revenue from gaming grew 6% over the same period last year. However, sales of software were offset by slowing Xbox console sales.

The decline in Xbox hardware revenue was blamed on "lower volumes of Xbox 360" consoles sold, according to Microsoft. Amy Hood, Microsoft's chief financial officer, mentioned the offset in gaming revenue during the call, saying the company saw growth both in Xbox Live services and its first-party game portfolio in spite of declining sales for its last-gen system.

The Craziest Feature Cut From Halo 4

The Kinect was almost considered as a key part of the Halo 4 experience, according to the game's creative director Josh Holmes, who who sat down to speak with IGN for episode two of IGN Unfiltered (premiering tomorrow morning at 9am Pacific).

"The craziest idea was when someone suggested using Kinect voice interaction with Cortana throughout the course of the experience," said Holmes when asked what the craziest feature that never made into Halo 4 was. While he admits it was an amazing idea, he had doubts as to whether or not he and his team could have pulled it off all the way.

Microsoft Revenue Drops $1.8 Billion From Previous Quarter

Microsoft released its financial results for the first quarter of the 2016 fiscal year, and the company saw a loss of $1.8 billion USD from the results of the last quarter. The company reported revenue of $20.4 billion for Q1 2016, compared to $22.2 billion previously.

The only Xbox mention in the release came with the announcement that Xbox Live "monthly active users grew 28%" to 39 million. That number does not represent a high-point for the service, but instead represents growth over the same period last year.

Last quarter, the Xbox division remained a shining beacon for Microsoft, showing revenue growth of 27%. Its chief console competitor, Sony's PlayStation 4, continues to lead the sales charts.

Activision Delays Release of Last-Gen Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

Activision is delaying the release of last-gen versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5.

In a statement to Eurogamer, the publisher did not confirm how long the delay would be, but did confirm that following overwhelming criticism of the current-gen releases, it was focusing "on fixes and content updates for PS4 and Xbox One".

The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game had been scheduled to release on November 13, 2015.

"We are working closely with our developers to address the issues identified by our community," states Activision. "Our development resources are fully focused on fixes and content updates for PS4 and Xbox One, so we have decided to delay the release of THPS5 on PS3 and X360.

Injustice: Year Four #12 Review

Injustice: Year Four turned out to be a fairly bumpy ride. It started off as just the return to form this saga needed, but then suffered through some bouts of poor pacing as the conflict between Superman's forces and the Greek gods escalated. Unfortunately, the series doesn't race across the finish line so much as sputter and die a few yards short. While this year had its moments, it features by far the weakest conclusion of all four volumes.

The sudden addition of the New Gods to this conflict in the previous issue was cause for concern, and that concern was more than warranted. Describing the resolution to Year Four as anticlimactic would be an understatement. The resolution basically boils down to a conversation between Zeus and Highfather. Superman and his allies have no impact on the outcome of this conflict. It would be easy to say that this issue is more concerned with setting up Year Five than properly wrapping up Year Four, but it's not even clear what the conflict of the next series is intended to be. Only an earlier scene where Wonder Woman makes a heroic sacrifice to save her friends from nuclear annihilation saves this issue from feeling like a complete waste of time.

Rock Band 3 Export for Rock Band 4 Coming Later This Year

Harmonix has confirmed via a post on its blog that Rock Band 3 tracks will be exportable into Rock Band 4. The team is working to have this process available with the planned December 8 feature update.

It was known that previous Rock Band game disc exports would be made available to load into Rock Band 4 (with the exception of The Beatles: Rock Band, which was never enabled for export) but as there had never been an export key made available for Rock Band 3, whether tracks from that would ever make the jump remained up in the air.

At its most basic level, the Halo series is about shooting the bad guys. So many bad guys. The sheer breadth of weaponry available over the course of the Halo series is impressive, but some weapons are more useful, more satisfying, or just more lethal, than the others.

Below are our selections for the most iconic and all-around most awesome weapons in Halo history.

Love it or hate it, there's no arguing that the Covenant Needler is one of Halo's most iconic weapons. Wielded by Covenant infantry, the Needler fires a battery of explosive, homing projectiles that embed themselves in an enemy. Several seconds after embedding, the needles detonate, making short work of any foe caught in the crosshairs. It works great against organic targets, but loses a lot of its "oomph" against vehicles. Still, filling an enemy full of needles, ducking behind cover, and hearing the unmistakable sound of a successful kill makes the Needler a joy to use. In multiplayer matches, few things are as satisfying (or frustrating, depending on which end of the weapon you find yourself) as a delayed Needler kill.

Telltale's Game of Thrones Episode 6 Gets a Release Date

Telltale has announced the season finale in its Game of Thrones series will be available on consoles and PC from November 17.

Episode 6 - The Ice Dragon will be available to download on the same day as the full season hits shelves as a retail disc. Additionally, the first episode in the season is now free to download on both consoles and mobile devices to help anyone who's yet to try the games out get a taster.

Destiny's Story Underwent a Massive Overhaul in 2013

Destiny's story originally revolved around players and their hunt for Rasputin, a Warmind now found in the Cosmodrome. According to a report by Kotaku, that story was scrapped in 2013 and completely retooled using assets already in place in the game.

"Bungie ditched everything" that had been written by former cinematic director Joe Staten and his team, according to the report. That meant everything needed to be reworked, as Bungie "scrapped plot threads, overhauled characters, and rewrote most of the dialogue" for the game.

Destiny Sequel Reportedly Being Helped by High Moon Studios

The numbered sequel to Destiny will be helped along by Activision's High Moon Studios, according to a report from Kotaku.

On High Moon Studios' own website, it mentions that it is working alongside Bungie to help support the Destiny universe, and in late May a job listing appeared pointing to High Moon Studios working with Bungie on Destiny. However, until the Kotaku report, there was no evidence that it was helping develop a sequel to the game.

Guitar Hero Live Review

Are you ready to rock? Well you’d better be, because Guitar Hero Live practically insists that you remain glued to the fretboard 24/7 with its addictive, always-on GHTV mode. This daring new streaming service works in tandem with a substantially redesigned guitar controller to compensate for a disappointing career mode and underdeveloped local multiplayer. The sum total is a largely enjoyable return to the stage for the series that once started a music game revolution.

It all starts with that new controller. Developer FreeStyle Games has refreshed the Guitar Hero experience considerably by adding a sixth button and splitting the frets into two rows: three black buttons, and three white. As someone who’s been playing GH games since banging out those first few power chords of I Love Rock and Roll in the original, I initially struggled to get to grips with the new button layout. At speed, it was tough for me to distinguish one black button from another, and hopping back and forth between the two rows almost always ended in me fumbling the transition and killing my multiplier.

September's 10 Top Selling Games Revealed

The top selling game for September was NBA 2K16, according to numbers released by the NPD Group today. In second place, another sports game, EA's Madden NFL 16, made another appearance on the NPD Group's top 10 chart. In fact, 4 of the 10 games on the list were annualized sports games.

As far as single-platform games, Super Mario Maker for Wii U had the distinction of being the only console exclusive to show up on the chart at an impressive number 6 spot. Minecraft held on at number 10, showing the game's enormous popularity still has a lot of momentum.

September's top 10 selling games were as follows:

PlayStation 4 Once Again Tops Sales Chart

According to numbers released by the NPD Group, Sony's PlayStation 4 once again took the top spot in console sales for the month.

In a statement from Sony, the company thanked its fans and pointed to PlayStation 4 being the "number one console for NBA 2K16, Madden NFL 16, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and FIFA 16."

The Xbox One had a solid showing, according to Microsoft, but once again was unable to knock Sony from its place at number one. "Xbox One continued to see strong momentum in September," Microsoft said in a statement, crediting Forza 6 and a strong showing by EA Sports FIFA '16 for a "solid year-over-year growth" in sales of the console.

Xbox head Phil Spencer praised Sony's platform earlier this month, calling the PS4 a "good product." Spencer admitted he's unsure as to whether or not the Xbox One will be able to close the gap between it and Sony's console. In April, the Xbox One took the top sales spot away from Sony, but since then, the PS4 has claimed the top-spot time and time again.

Why Hideo Kojima Left Konami

Hideo Kojima has parted ways with Konami and Kojima Productions. According to a source who spoke with The New Yorker, Kojima’s final day at Konami was October 9.

The exit ceremony was said to have been “a rather cheerful but also emotional goodbye.” It does not appear Konami President Hideki Hayakawa or CEO Sadaaki Kaneyoshi were in attendance.

Kojima’s departure comes after it was rumored he was leaving the company he had worked for since 1986 upon completion of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Back in March, Konami pulled Kojima’s name from promotional material and confirmed the rebranding of his in-house studio, Kojima Productions, to Konami Digital Entertainment.

Halo 5 Characters Coming to Minecraft

Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris from Halo 5: Guardians are heading to Minecraft on Xbox One and 360 on October 23.

The new Halo 5 characters will come to Minecraft as a free update for people who own the Halo mash-up pack, which costs $4/€3.80/£2.70 on Xbox Live. That means Master Chief, Fredric, Kelly, Linda, Locke, Buck, Tanaka and Vale will soon show up in the sandbox game.

The original Halo mash-up pack already features 40 character skins and 31 musical tracks from the franchise. Plus, there are pre-made worlds based off Silent Cartographer, Valhalla and Blood Gulch, to name a few.

Ubisoft Offers Early Beta Access as Part of New Loyalty Program

Ubisoft has introduced Ubisoft Club, a new rewards program for its games. In its video introduction, Ubi says the rewards can be accumulated regardless of platform and can be used to grant access to in-game content, beta participation, "limited edition goodies" and discounts in the Uplay shop.

The program grants XP, badges, and Uplay Units for playing any Ubisoft game. Ubisoft Club is a rebranding and redesign of Ubisoft's previous Uplay rewards program, Uplay Win, which operated in nearly the same way save for the Ubisoft Club name.

The video encourages you to "sign up now," on the Ubisoft Club website. Of course, you'll need a Uplay account to take advantage of the rewards offered through the club.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Lets You Weaponize Chickens

Lara Croft is getting the ability to use chickens as explosive devices in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

The Holy Fire Card Pack comes as part of the Apex Predator pre-order bonus through GameStop. One of the perks in the card pack is the Chicken Bomb, in which chickens can be thrown like hand grenades to break through barriers or kill enemies.

Other fire-related perks include Blazing Inferno, which grants Lara unlimited fire arrows, Backfire, which causes enemies to burst into flame if they land a melee attack, and Holy Fire, which causes enemies to explode when killed by melee attacks.

The Apex Predator Pack with a character skin and the Venom Hand Cannon gun.

Recently, Microsoft confirmed the game will have microtransactions and detailed DLC coming in the Season Pass.

Black Ops 3 Parkour Racing 'Free Run' Mode Revealed

Treyarch has revealed an all-new mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops III in which players can race through parkour-like obstacle courses.

Free Run mode pits players against each other and the clock as they run, jump, and even shoot at targets.

“This mode as a whole is all about managing your thrust meter and the budget that thrust meter gives you,” said the developer in a video uploaded to YouTube.

Players will need to time jumps on the ground and off of walls and any mistake will reset the player but adversely affect their time trials.

Syfy Cancels Defiance

Update: Trion CEO Scott Hartsman, who runs the developer behind the Defiance MMORPG, issued the following comment to IGN regarding the series' cancelation:

We’ve had a great time working closely with the team of stellar writers, designers, producers, and actors on the Defiance TV show.  Like many of you, we’ve all enjoyed the stories they told week in and week out.  Let’s treat this as a fond farewell, in celebration of a successful three year run of a show that broke a lot of new ground and brought an incredible quality experience to its viewers.

As for the game and its future, Defiance is Trion’s IP and the game will continue exactly as before.  The show has always been a fantastic and interesting partner, but the two were always meant to be able to stand on their own, which is why the show was primarily set in St. Louis and the game in the SF Bay Area.

EA Has No Interest or Time for HD Remakes

Electronic Arts has little interest in re-releasing its old games, so don’t expect that Mass Effect Trilogy remake to release any time soon. When publishers release old games on new platforms, EA COO Peter Moore told IGN, “It feels like pushing stuff out because you’ve run out of ideas.”

Moore explained why EA isn’t into this approach to releasing games. “Remakes, because of who we are, and this broad portfolio of intellectual property...you add all that together, I don’t know where we find the time to do remakes,” Moore said. “We’re a company that just likes to push forward.”

EA: 'Highly Likely' Battlefield Support Studio Will Make New Game

DICE Los Angeles has lived as a support studio at Electronic Arts since it was founded in 2013, but it’s "highly likely" we’ll see the studio leading its own projects soon, EA Studios Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund told IGN.

"When you start something new, sometimes it's actually good for them to test the waters, try a couple of explanation packs," Soderlund told IGN. "You've got to have a good idea for a great game before you can make a game, and that takes time."

Visceral worked on Battlefield 4 expansions to learn the Frostbite Engine tools before it had its own idea in Battlefield Hardline, for example. DICE LA may be on a similar track as the current manager of Battlefield 4.

EA Building 'Lots of New IPs' and 'Gigantic Action Games'

Electronic Arts is "building a lot of new IPs" around the world, according to Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Studios, and one of them at Jade Raymond’s Motive studio in Montreal is filling an important gap in EA’s development portfolio.

"If you look at the biggest segment in our industry, which is action, we don't have a lot," Soderlund told IGN. "EA is not known to make gigantic action games like Assassin's Creed or Batman or GTA or those types of games that are really big. The strategic direction that we put in motion is to expand our portfolio more into that segment, to see what can we bring to gamers that maybe hasn't been done before."

Metal Gear 5 Opening Day Twice as Good as Avengers 2

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain earned twice as much in its first day on sale as Avengers: Age of Ultron did in the same time frame.

That's according to Adobe Digital Index’s new report on gaming trends (via Venturebeat), which reveals Kojima's final Metal Gear game pulled in an impressive $179 million globally compared to Avengers' $84 million global take.

What's even more interesting is the comparative budget sizes - while Metal Gear cost around $80 million to make, Age of Ultron sucked up a huge $250 million.

“The gaming industry is a lot bigger than most marketers realize,” said Tamara Gaffney, principal analyst and director at Adobe in the report. “These games get more social buzz on opening day than most movies do, and the revenue for one of the top games this year outdid the highest-grossing movie start

Did EA's 'Players First' Initiative Change Anything?

When Andrew Wilson took over as Electronic Arts' CEO in 2013, his goal was to improve the relationship between EA and its audience with a “player-first” mentality. It was, unsurprisingly, a very corporate-sounding initiative, something meant to give a then-reviled company a sense of humanity. Ideally, the refreshed company hoped, the new regime would created something worthy of inspiration rather than ire.

Two years later, Wilson’s “player-first” approach has had drastic consequences for EA. The results have been clear, tangible benefits to a player base formerly united by their hatred for the publisher.

Bungie Addresses Concerns of Fresh Destiny Microtransactions

Bungie has denied it has any plans to sell drop rate buffs in Destiny after a series of new items were found in patch files.

Following yesterday's update, which added the new real-money currency Silver to the game along with purchasable emotes, a number of players in the community were surprised to notice new items that appeared to offer significant bonuses to anyone who managed to acquire them.

The items include ones to buff armour and weapon drops in the King's Fall raid, the ability to acquire more Moldering Shards in the raid, and the option to fully level your character's equipped subclass. Concerns deepened when a thread made to bring up the issue on Bungie's forums was locked.

Destiny's Microtransaction Fees Revealed

We knew microtransactions would be introduced to Destiny today, but it wasn't until now that we knew the prices.

Later today, players will be able to purchase Silver from the PlayStation Store and Xbox Games Store. Destiny's new in-game currency costs real money and can be used to purchase emotes from the vendor Tess Everis at her storefront in The Tower.

According to the PlayStation Store, 500 Silver costs $5, 1000 costs $10 plus a bonus of 100, and 2000 costs $20 plus a bonus of 300. Last week, Bungie promised a drop of free Silver so players can grab some emotes when the microtransactions are introduced. The prices of emotes themselves have yet to be revealed.

Tess Everis has returned to The Tower in Destiny: The Taken King, bringing with her the recently-announced emotes available for real-world cash.

18 emotes are for sale via microtransactions, but there's one in particular that stands out: the much-loved "Carlton Dance" made famous by actor Alfonso Ribeiro in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 1: The Order of the Stone Review

Episode 1 of Minecraft: Story Mode feels more like Telltale’s The Walking Dead than you might guess. You’ll make tough choices about which members of your group stay and which go, mediate disputes, and yes, you’ll even fend off zombies. Of course, Story Mode’s family-friendly adventure replaces Walking Dead’s despair with a lighthearted sense of humor and camaraderie, written with a lot of heart that kept me invested in this story and its mysteries.

At first, the world is a mystery in of itself. We play as Jesse, the heart of a group of friends and aspiring builders. As for what it means to be a builder in the world of Minecraft: Story Mode? I couldn’t tell you, because almost no time is spent on introducing us to Telltale’s take on Minecraft’s inherently blank-slate universe in Episode 1. Instead we’re quickly tossed directly into the drama. Ten extra minutes of opening scenes devoted to who these friends are, where they live, and other worldbuilding or character moments would have gone a long way towards orienting me into what this blocky world is all about and what its rules are. Are they kids? Adults? Do people in this world have jobs? I’m not sure.

Massive Cosplay Gallery From NYCC

This weekend, New Yorkers let their fandom show by turning out in some amazing, well-crafted cosplay during this weekend's New York Comic-Con. Hundreds of costumed fans got into character, and we captured some of the best in a massive 300+ pic gallery.

There were some amazing Batmen from Batman vs. Superman, more than a couple of Furiosas, tons of Destiny cosplay, and quite a few well-appointed mutants. Creativity and depth were the keywords at the event. The oft-unsung heroes got their due in costume form and many dressed as alternate or toy versions of their favorite characters.

Look for an amazing Raiden, an outstanding Mr. Freeze, a spot-on Nosferatu, and a glorious Muto from Godzilla. Spider-Woman, Hawkgirl, Princess Amidala, Mystique, gender-swapped Booster Gold, Ratchet, Venom... the list goes on and on! Treyarch Talks the Future of Call of Duty and Black Ops

Treyarch has discussed the future of the Black Ops branch of the Call of Duty franchise, and whether or not the studio would contemplate returning to a World War setting.

Speaking to IGN, Black Ops III director of campaign and zombies Jason Blundell explained that while the ending of Black Ops III won't be as open as that of Black Ops II, he does believe there are more stories to tell in the universe.

"We had multiple stories at the end of Black Ops II and people had different outcomes. Then we kind of picked an idea and that kind of connect into Black Ops III – I’ll leave that mysterious! But the end of Black Ops… hmmm… here’s the thing, I think there’s always stories to be told. One guy asked me if we were going to keep going into the future but the point is there are always stories to be told. That could be the future, that could be the past.

Black Ops 3 Director on Call of Duty's First Female Protagonist

Call of Duty: Black Ops III's director has discussed why the studio decided to give players the option of a female character in the latest instalment in the franchise, and explained Ridley Scott's Alien film provided inspiration for the game's script.

Speaking to IGN, Treyarch's Jason Blundell explained the decision to include a playable female character was actually first considered for Black Ops II, but ultimately shelved over fears there wouldn't be enough time to capture a separate voiceover and mocap performance that would do the character justice.

"The power of current gen meant we could do it," he explained. "We actually thought about it back during Black Ops II but we knew it’d end up getting cut because of the amount of time, space and assets needed to fully realise a customisable player character. It just wasn’t worth it. But this time we thought we could do it justice in terms of personalisation, with full mocap and VO data for everything.

Treyarch 'Shocked' by Reaction to Black Ops 3 Twitter Stunt

Call of Duty: Black Ops III developer Treyarch has apologised to anyone offended by a recent marketing campaign taking place on its Twitter account that seemed to suggest a terrorist attack was taking place in Singapore.

In case you missed it, the widely-criticised stunt saw the @callofduty account change its name and branding to "Current Events Aggregate", before tweeting a series of articles about fashion and movies, both out of context and seemingly unrelated to Call of Duty. The next one was then of a terrorist attack tweeted in real time.

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Proves Standalone LEGO Games Are Still Worth It

With the recent release of LEGO Dimensions, I wondered if we still need standalone LEGO games. After years of tie-ins for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and many more, Dimensions seemed like such a smart solution -- tiny, satisfying hub worlds for each franchise that deliver plenty of fan service without overstaying their welcome. Why return to the old format?

After seeing LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, I understand why standalone games can coexist.

In a demo at New York Comic-Con, we saw two sections of LEGO Marvel’s Avengers from two key Avengers: Age of Ultron scenes. The first was in Korea shortly after Captain America and the Maximoff twins have stopped a runaway train. A cutscene setting up the scenario featured actual lines from Age of Ultron and added a goofy LEGO twist (notably including a pig) to provide context. Mechanically, the characters were smart. Quicksilver can enter slow-mo mode to avoid obstacles, Cap can set ricochet targets before throwing his shield, and Scarlet Witch can pick up any obstacle, be it a car or a group of enemies. More importantly, though, the scene felt like part of a bigger world.

Spelunky High Score World Record Broken

Spelunky has a new world record high score: $3,404,400.

The record was broken today by longtime Spelunky score runner Kinnijup, who just narrowly beat the previous record of $3,399,600 set by twigglefly in June.

$3.4 million is a remarkable achievement considering that Spelunky creator Derek Yu thought even a score of $3 million was impossible as recently as last year. Kinnijup’s score record comes after a big summer for Spelunky, with new world records by SpelunkyGod (beating the game’s main path in 1:41) and dtea (beating the game’s more challenging Hell route in 3:44) both achieved in August. All of Spelunky’s world records are indexed on fan-run site Moss Tier.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Goes Gold

Development on Rise of the Tomb Raider is now complete, as the game has officially gone gold for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

"We are pleased to confirm that gamers will be able to get their hands on Rise of the Tomb Raider very soon, when the game launches on November 10," Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher said. "The entire team challenged themselves to improve on the last game that millions of fans enjoyed so much, and we believe we have created a worthy sequel to Tomb Raider 2013.

"With the game development now complete we are excited to share this incredible next chapter in Lara’s journey as she continues her growth into the ultimate action adventure icon, and accepts her destiny to become the Tomb Raider."

Tales from the Borderlands - Episode 5 Release Date Announced

Telltale games has announced the Season finale of Tales from the Borderlands will arrive on October 20 for PC/Mac, PS4 and PS3; October 21 for Xbox One and Xbox 360; and on October 22 on iOS and Android-based devices.

Episode 5 is called "The Vault of the Traveler", and a new trailer gives some insight into what fans of the series and Telltale can expect to see unfold.

Additionally, Telltale has also revealed the first episode of the series, Zero Sum, is now available to download for free on consoles as well as mobile devices.

New Marvel Play Set Showcased for Disney Infinity 3.0

Disney Interactive has today revealed the first look at Marvel Battlegrounds, an upcoming Play Set for Disney Infinity 3.0. Marvel Battlegrounds, which Disney describes as an “arcade brawler”, will be the first Disney Infinity Play Set to support four-player gameplay.

Developed by United Front Games (ModNation Racers, Sleeping Dogs) alongside series overlords Avalanche Software, Marvel Battlegrounds will boast an original Marvel storyline featuring Loki and Ultron, who have teamed up and have created robotic replicas of the Marvel super heroes. The action will unfold over several locations, including a wrecked Brooklyn train yard, Wakanda and S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Lunar Base.

Marvel Battlegrounds will be compatible with all Disney Infinity Marvel characters. Disney also notes that all Marvel figures will feature “adapted abilities and skills to complement the new style of gameplay of Marvel Battlegrounds.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider Has Microtransactions, DLC Detailed

Microsoft has revealed Rise of the Tomb Raider will have microtransactions, and also given some insight into what DLC we should expect from the Season Pass.

On the microtransaction front, the publisher explained these will take the form of game-modifying items called "Expedition Cards". Outside of the main campaign, you'll be able to use these to access better armour and perks, or aesthetic differences - Big Head Mode was cited as an example of the latter, while the ability to bandage yourself without using up resources was another. While in-game credits can be earned to buy these, the quicker way is to buy them with real cash.

"In Rise of the Tomb Raider, you'll earn credits by completing challenges and exploring the world," a post on the Xbox Wire explains. "These credits can be used to purchase Expedition Card packs. When used, Expedition Cards become modifiers in game modes outside of the single player campaign. Some Cards are humorous, such as Big Head Mode, while others can increase the challenge or give you special advantages.
