What key game releases should you look forward to in the second half of 2015 on the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC?
This year has already given us outstanding games like The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, but there's still plenty more to come before the year's finished. Rare Replay | Release Date: August 4
Rare Replay is a compilation of all the classic titles by veteran developer Rare, who most gamers will know for their work on games like Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, and Conker's Bad Fur Day. Rare Replay will include those games and 27 others, and it looks like it will be the quintessential collection for hardcore fans. (Platforms: Xbox One)
Everybody's Gone to Rapture | Release Date: August 11
The depiction of the apocalypse in games has never been this ominous and eerie. Everybody's Gone to Rapture is the newest game by The Chinese Room, the creators behind Dear Esther. It tells the story of six different characters and their experiences in a village in England during the fateful events of the world's destruction. (Platforms: PS4)
Volume | Release Date: August 18
Volume is the newest project by Mike Bithell, the creator of indie puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone, that is a re-telling of the classic tale of Robin Hood but with a sci-fi twist. It's a stealth game playing with some old-school level design and presentation that we haven't seen since the first Metal Gear Solid's VR missions. It sounds dated, but it certainly looks compelling. Until Dawn | Release Date: August 25
Until Dawn is a new survival horror game inspired by slasher films. It puts you in control of eight friends staying at a log cabin, who are unaware that they are being hunted by a merciless serial killer. Designed with multiple narrative paths to explore based on your decisions, Until Dawn promises a tense and horrifying experience that demands multiple playthroughs. (Platforms: PS4)
Madden NFL 16 | Release Date: August 25,
The 2015 football season steadily awaits us, and as always, a new Madden NFL game is releasing alongside the occasion. This year's offering will feature a unique new mode called Draft Champions, which combines elements of Fantasy Football with the classic Madden NFL gameplay. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain | Release Date: September 1
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the latest entry in the long-running Metal Gear Solid franchise and is the first to feature a fully-fledged open world. With additional features like base building mechanics, a day-and-night cycle, and gameplay that focuses on stealth exploration, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is shaping up to be one of the most exciting and innovative games in the series so far. Mad Max | Release Date: September 1
Following the hype that came from Mad Max: Fury Road, Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios' is releasing a game based on the Mad Max film series. Super Mario Maker | Release Date: September 11
Super Mario Maker is a game for everyone who ever wished they could design their own Mario levels. Featuring hundreds of tools to customize levels across numerous generation editions of the famous Nintendo plumber, the game is promising to supply limitless possibility. Without a doubt, Super Mario Maker is shaping up to be one of this year's most exciting releases. (Platforms: Wii U)
Forza Motorsport 6 | Release Date: September 15

Mighty No. 9 | Release Date: September 15
Mega Man creator Keiji Infanune's famously kickstarted project Mighty No. 9 is set to come out this year. As the spiritual successor to the Mega Man series, Mighty No. 9 is undoubtedly an ode to all the Blue Bomber fans out there looking for a new take on the classic character's sidescrolling platforming action. FIFA 16 | Release Date: September 22
This year's FIFA game will be changing things up in new and exciting ways. For the first time in the series, FIFA 16 will include female players with 12 women's national teams to pick from. On top of this also comes a laundry list of additional gameplay improvements and refinements, such as better control of defense, new tackling mechanics, and control in the midfield. NBA 2K16 | Release Date: September 29
The latest entry of the beloved NBA 2K series is looking to the past for its innovation this year. Returning to the fold are refined versions of various modes from previous years, such as MyTeam and MyGM. But the main highlight of NBA 2K16 is its focus on narrative with the return of MyCareer, which is a story mode, written by filmmaker Spike Lee this year, where you customize your own player and enter the NBA as a rookie. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 | Release Date: September 29
After nearly eight years, we are finally getting a brand new entry in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series. Lego Dimensions is Lego's addition to the genre of toys-to-life games. Adrift | Release Date: September 2015
If you're a fan of the eerie sci-fi seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey, then Adrift might be the game you've been waiting for. It follows the struggles of an amnesiac astronaut who floats through the wreckage of a space station with no memory of what happened to him. Rock Band 4 | Release Date: October 6
It's time to get the band back together. Harmonix's Rock Band 4 marks the return of the famous music game franchise. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege | Release Date: October 13
Rainbow Six Siege is the newest game in this Tom Clancy line of first-person shooters. Its premise focuses on breach and clear-style tactics in confined building environments. Putting heavy emphasis on co-operation between players and environmental destruction, Rainbow Six Siege looks like an amazingly tense experience that is bound to please first-person shooter fans looking for a nice change of pace. Yoshi's Woolly World | Release Date: October 16
When you combine Mario's beloved dinosaur ally Yoshi with the art style of 2010's Kirby: Epic Yarn, what you get is the unbelievably adorable looking Yoshi's Woolly World. While it has already been released in Europe and Japan, Yoshi's Woolly World will be making its way to North America to charm the rest of the world with its endearing platforming gameplay later this year. Guitar Hero Live | Release Date: October 20
A brand new Guitar Hero game is on its way to please all of you would-be guitarists. Titled Guitar Hero Live, this newest entry will include a brand new guitar peripheral with six buttons arranged into two rows of three. On top of classic series offerings, such as free play and multiplayer, Guitar Hero Live will feature an entirely new mode called Guitar Hero TV, an online-only mode that lets you access and play songs via curated music channels that you can switch between at any given time. Assassin's Creed Syndicate | Release Date: October 23
Continuing the series' tradition of emerging in a new time period with each iteration, the next Assassin's Creed game will take its trademark open world action gameplay to Victorian era London. Unlike previous entries, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is mixing up the formula by putting you in control of two Assassins, twins Jacob and Evie Frye. It will mainly revolve around their struggles to build up a street gang to help them take back control of London from the Templar Order. It's like Gangs of New York and Assassin's Creed had a baby. Halo 5: Guardians | Release Date: October 27
The highly anticipated Halo 5: Guardians is attempting to innovate the long running first person shooter franchise in exciting new ways. With new additions to the formula, such as a 4-player co-operative campaign and a new MOBA-like mode called Warzone, Halo 5: Guardians could be most unique game in the series so far. Anno 2205 | Release Date: November 3
Anno 2205 takes futuristic corporation and city management to a new high. As the leader of a corporation leader in the year 2205, this game throws you into the fray competing against other corporations in the uphill battle to develop the most advanced technology. Need for Speed | Release Date: November 3
This latest reboot of the classic racing franchise is going open-world with an online multiplayer component that lets you and other players race and inhabit the world together. While drastically different in format from past Need for Speed games, this new approach is an exciting move that can add a fresh coat of paint on to this now almost 21 year old franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops III | Release Date: November 6
Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the latest in developer Treyarch's Call of Duty sub-series. Throwing the series' setting even further into the future to the year 2065, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is looking to excite fans with its new four player co-operative campaign and class-based multiplayer mode. Fallout 4 | Release Date: November 10
After years of anticipation, the release of Fallout 4 is finally near. There's no denying the hype for this post-apocalyptic open world RPG is incredibly high. After all, the Fallout games have always been known for being great games. Regardless, with a tagline that states that "War Never Changes," let's hope that the series' standard for quality doesn't change with this one. (Platforms: PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Rise of the Tomb Raider | Release Date: November 10
Crystal Dynamic's Tomb Raider reboot is getting a sequel in the form of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Continuing where the previous game left off, Rise of the Tomb Raider sees a more seasoned Lara Croft embarking on a new globe trotting adventure. The game offers more choice in how to overcome foes, be it via stealth or head-on, with a variety of weapons that can be crafted to suit each player's style. (Platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360)
Star Wars: Battlefront | Release Date: November 17
It's hard to deny the allure of being right in the front lines of historic Star Wars battles. If you've watched any of the films at all, then it's likely you've wished that you could be right in the thick of it. Luckily, DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront is looking to make this wish come true with its first person shooter action set within various battlefields from this beloved sci-fi universe. Just Cause 3 | Release Date: December 1
Have you ever wished you could overthrow the fictional regime of a fictional evil dictator in a fictional oppressed country? Then Just Cause 3 is most likely the perfect fit for you with its over-the-top open world gameplay filled to the brim with numerous weapons and vehicles to cause overthrow totalitarian governments with. Xenoblade Chronicles X | Release Date: December 4
Xenoblade Chronicles X is the exciting new spiritual successor to 2009's Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. While similar to that game in its systems and mechanics, this one provides an even larger beautifully rendered sci-fi world to explore and the ability to commander transformable mech-like suits called Skells. If you're a fan of JRPGs, then Xenoblade Chronicles X is well worth keeping an eye on for its gameplay quality and presentation alone. (Platforms: Wii U)
Hitman | Release Date: December 8
The upcoming Hitman sees Agent 47 coming back to the traditional structure that fans have come to know and love from the stealth-action series. While its predecessor Hitman: Absolution was well-received, it was criticized for too being linear and easy. This new game is promising to change this by offering massive levels to explore and removing mechanics that made its predecessor lack difficulty, such as instinct mode and mission checkpoints. Persona 5 | Release Date: TBA 2015
If what we've seen of Persona 5 so far is any indication, then it's that the Persona series is still as slick and stylish as ever. Following the gameplay premise of its predecessors, the game also has you living out the adventures of a high school boy who has the ability to summon manifestations of his psyche known as a Personas. However, the main twist this time around is that the protagonist also happens to moonlight as a cat burglar. (Platforms: PS4, PS3)
XCOM 2 | Release Date: TBA 2015
2012's XCOM: Enemy Unknown never failed to impress with its tense turn-based strategy gameplay. That's why XCOM 2 is very much one of our most highly anticipated games of 2015. With improvements such as faster gameplay and the addition of secondary objectives, XCOM 2 has the makings of an amazing sequel that you should all look out for later this year.
